Say, WHAT! Maxey and Embid has played three seasons together and for three seasons they've existed early in the playoffs! Daryl Morey should be worried about his job since he was hired to turn this team into championship contenders.
“He wants to play, he just doesn’t want to play for the 76ers”. Well then, he shouldn’t have opted in to a contract to play for the 76ers. He realized nobody would pay him and took the money with the opt in. Wants his cake and eat it too. He has already ruined his career. Nobody is paying him big money after this season.
Here is likely what went down. Harden forced a trade to Philly and Morey said they would take care of him on his next contract. After the season ended Morey decided it would be smarter to wait to give him a big money long term extension than to just give it to him knowing the market wouldn't give Harden what he was set to make this year with his option (his age makes a long term extension a liability). As a GM that is the right call. Hardens ego took a big hit and this is the result. He is a 34 year old star with the ego of a 28 year old super star. Ballmer is the richest owner in the league and I think Harden assumes if he goes there and they make the 2nd round with him putting up numbers he is gonna get a maxish level payday again. He is in for a rude awakening….
