Emoni Bates is LEGIT! What’s holding him back? Cleveland Cavaliers x NBA

Emoni Bates has proven to be a prolific 3-point shooter and the Cleveland Cavaliers are grateful he fell to them in the second round of the NBA Draft.

But what is holding Bates back from being a rotational player? Can he make the leap this season? Or will this be a long-term project to keep an eye on?

  1. Emoni Bates story is a dope one. Hopefully we’re still just in the redemption stage and far from the apex of the story.

It would go a long way for Emoni to get into some yoga and a bulk up regimen. Dude is so stiff out there and has no fluidity to his game. I think his best archetype and player he should maybe mimic is J.J Reddick. If he can learn to navigate himself on offense, curl around screens and knock down shots, he’d be really dangerous. Bulking up and learning how to position himself on defense to at least force the defender into help l, will be critical for Emoni to reach his pinnacle potential.

Perfect scenario for him in Cleveland. The Charge were moved nearby, so he should still be close enough to be kept under the wings of the veterans. I imagine we’ll see more Cavs stars visiting the G-League this season on off nights at home.

  2. Emoni is only 19 – if he can get stronger, add some weight and develop some defensive fundamentals/ footwork – he will have an amazing career- draft steal

  3. Going to Cleveland is perfect for him. Fitting him in with ball-dominant guards like Mitchell and Garland takes away so many bad opportunities to chuck up ugly shots or turn the ball over. Beginning him as a catch-and-shoot floor spacer is the best way to maximize his effectiveness. And with the limited shooting on the Cavs' roster, one injury could end up getting him minutes this year.

  4. Reps make everyone better! You’re going to get scored on in the league it’s inevitable even if you’re playing great defense. Miss communication’s happen, defensive schemes change… the key is having opportunity to learn from it. A perfect critique his name is Emoni in the video above it’s spelled Amoni. It’s been Emoni since 2004 how in 2023 people still get it wrong? We all have to get better at something. I’m personally rooting for everyone who has a good heart and good intentions.

  5. Strength. He won't be able to box out, which killed Cavs in playoffs. Find him an old E. German olympic swim team trainer.
