Kristaps Porzingis looks good, Payton Pritchard steals show in Boston Celtics preseason win

The Celtics beat the Philadelphia 76ers Sunday night in their preseason debut. Kristaps Porzingis looked pretty good in his debut, but it was Payton Pritchard who stole the headlines (on a day where he signed a $30 million extension) by getting the crowd rocking with a monster fourth quarter. John Karalis of Boston Sports Journal explains why that was important for more than just the game, and then goes over how Jrue Holiday, Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, and others played in their somewhat limited time.

  1. As a Celtic โ˜˜๏ธ fan from the UK ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง they need to rest porzingas atleast 15-17 games maybe even 20+ barring injury we need him for the playoffs

  2. Damn, Iโ€™m excited about Pritchard this year he looks like he has been doing some serious training. Especially on the defense.

  3. The Cโ€™s offense was confusing but I was happy to see lots of play action. Lots of drag screens, off-ball cuts to the basket, a few pin downs, etc. Definitely theyโ€™re becoming a more complex offense, though they clearly have steps to go.

  4. When John asked Joe about the lineup, I think joe was choking John out in his head. I lolโ€™d and thank god john told him it was a joke.

  5. Only reason Joe challenges that play is so we can see how awesome Brisset's putback was. Foul or not people should be more hyped for him than Hauser.

  6. Bro with those ears you can hear the players talk from the nose bleeds ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿพ but man always a pleasure watching your videos ๐Ÿ€

  7. I said it in the offseason, but his connection with JB on backcuts could be even more deadly than what we saw with Smart. Heโ€™s taller which lets him pass the ball over the defense

  8. jrue already in postseason form with the 2-10๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

    Good luck boys!๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

Bucks owe Joe Cronin a championship ring for the next few seasons๐Ÿ˜Ž

  9. Tatum looks like the weight lifting may be affecting his outside shooting.

  10. Brisset and Stevens looked good. Lets see some Gabriel and Queta tonight eh…amd Svi too.

  11. So, i feel like this needs to be said for Jaylen…
Getting a tight handle on the NBA level is the HARDEST skill to build.
How many NBA players have come into the league with a sketchy handle and then suddenly at some point they started breaking ankles.
No one that i can think of.

You either have elite ball control when you come in, or you dont.
Jaylen doesnt have it. He will never have it.
But he isnt a point guard. He doesnt have to be Chris Paul.
His handle at the 2 is slightly below average, his handle at the 3 is actually slightly above average.
Anyone expecting him to come in this year and suddenly be tight with the handle are setting Brown, and themselves up for failure.
It is up to the coaching staff to accentuate his strengths and mitigate his weaknesses.

  12. Brown still can't dribble, Tatum still can't drive well enough and starts off cold every game, starters still missing a lot of 3s… Tatum and Brown haven't gotten any better so KP and Holliday will have to kinda carry these dudes when they're cold which is most of the starts. Also, Pritchard is too short to defend any starters in the NBA.

  13. John, I genuinely enjoy your work, even when we disagree on specific points. Although I'm not a subscriber, I watch your podcasts on YouTube whenever you post. I appreciate your being enamored with Pritchard, as many Green-Team fans are but stay calm over one preseason game against a Sixers squad that would be a lottery team if that group played through a regular season.

He has good instincts and fundamentals, but can he do any heavy lifting during critical times when the lights actually come on? I endorse the extension, as you stated: fair money, fair deal. However, when it comes to the player, I'm from Missouri. Keep up the good work, Brother!

  14. I had an amazing time with my brother at that game! I was probably deafening the folks in front of me from yelling "I LOVE PP!" โคโ˜˜๐Ÿ€
    Thanks for the pod, John!

  15. ๐Ÿ”ฅSuper cool vid and TY for breaking it down. I'm favoured, $15,000 weekly trade earnings even in this current economic downturn. So excited

  16. Celtics looked pretty good and Kristaps is a huge upgrade. The one thing that I noticed is that there isn't a lot of ball movement though. Under Brad Stevens it was one of the best passing and ball movement teams in the league. Now, to much one on one and they're not getting the best shot. That's on the Joe and the coaching staff. I think they'll be fine as they can go a legit 8 deep, which is what you use in the playoffs, but that ball movement is the only thing that concerns me. ๐Ÿ‘ โ˜˜๏ธ โ˜˜๏ธ
