(Himmelsbach) According to a league source, the team will likely enter the season with 14 players on guaranteed contracts. Queta played well this preseason, but the source said the Celtics do not plan to convert his two-way deal to a standard contract in the near future.

Queta has 50 NBA games on a two-way deal, my guess is they’re in wait-and-see mode to see if he’s this legit in actual games

I’m a fan of Neemias but I’m glad this will pump the brakes a bit on the hype train; I’m seeing people saying he’ll start some games 😂

He’s an NBA player and I’m not saying he can’t/won’t make an impact but there was plenty of bad to go with the good during preseason: a lot of missed rotations and he was out of position a few times where you could see other guys on the floor pulling him aside and redirecting him after the play. All of that will come with learning the system and with time, but court awareness has been one of the big things that has kept him from really solidifying himself in the NBA so far.

I hope I’m wrong as hell and he becomes one of those diamonds in the rough signings we’ve been missing but he’s still raw.

    I love queta

But I think there’s a clear path to figuring him out that doesn’t put us at disadvantage

In close games or against good teams we roll with kornet in low minutes, we play queta in garbage minutes or against weaker teams to test him out, it he pans out play him real minutes, then guarantee his contact if he works out in those

They don’t need to unless they need him for more than 50 games. Even on the regular roster he still wouldn’t be an every day guy. Eventually Horford or Porzingis will need a stretch off, and you bring him up then.

The roster spot can be saved for flexibility.

Does that leave the door open for a possible Blake return?
