[Fedor] Cavs, Isaac Okoro fail to reach contract extension before deadline. What happens next?

The deadline buzzer sounded at 6 p.m. Monday night — and Okoro, the Cavs’ rugged stopper, did not receive a contract extension.

Sources tell cleveland.com that team decision-makers and Okoro’s representatives had productive talks throughout the process but both sides ultimately felt it was best to wait, letting this upcoming season play out and revisiting negotiations next summer when Okoro could join a talented restricted free agency class.

This is a big year for the young man. We know he can run and hit free throws. We know he’s a solid defender. We know he has a motor.

But we need to see some threat from deep or he’s in an awkward spot as far as post-rookie contracts go.

The good thing in this article is that negotiations were friendly and both sides are on the same page. I really hope we can keep him around and it looks like him and the team feel the same way
