[POSTGAME] Your Memphis Grizzlies (0-1) drop Opening Night to the New Orleans Pelicans (1-0), 111-104

Are you 6’10” or taller? Can you rebound? Would you like to be a Basketbear?

Not ideal, but nothing unfamiliar. NOLA punks us on occasion.

This team when Ja or Bane isn’t on the floor:

    🧑🏻‍🦯🧑🏼‍🦯🧑🏽‍🦯🧑🏾‍🦯🧑🏿‍🦯

  2. ANAL_CAVITIES

Yearly petition for Jaren to remember that he’s a big man

(and also to kick Jenkins in the balls for not shrieking at Tillman posting up in the corner shooting 6 threes, what the fuck?)

  3. Cruztd23

Bad start, Nola is a strong team early in the season. Hopefully things will sort themself out. When does Brandon Clarke come back?

  4. AleroRatking

Ugh. These 25 games are not going to be fun.

  5. NoirPochette

    Well, first game cobwebs.

Rebounding is just going to be real tough unless we get like a 5 that is an amazing rebounder. Injuries hurt and Pelicans played well.

Looked better when going to the rim but a lot of times couldn’t finish.

Oh well. It is just Game 1 of an 82 game season. A lot of teams will have slow starts. Like the Hawks lost to the Hornets (ouch) and the Mavs aren’t doing too great against the Spurs.

  6. smileyforall220

Jaren Jackson my guy……8 points and 4 rebounds? Thats just pathetic.

Also its kind of rough that our best ball handler in the 2nd unit is our best shooter, Rose kept passing to open dudes who just clunk clunk clunk

  7. theglicky

Bane got his 30, im leaving here with sum.

  8. muddyklux

Giving up 27 2nd chance points while shooting 43 three pointers at 27% is not gonna win many games. Team needs to find a better formula

  9. scawnmc

No Ja, Santi, BC or Adams. That’s basically our entire offense (fast break, second chance points, good screens) not to mention our rebounding was atrocious. The first 25 games will be rough but without BC and Adams idk what to make of this team

  10. Thunder-ten-tronckh

Bane over here with the Curry stat line

  11. mdthomas714

Can I see jit please instead of Jake

  12. Well, for a team that (A) has a history of dropping season openers (B) has a history of getting beat by the Pels and (C) has a history of getting smoked by McCollum I guess that went as expected. I know rebounding is an issue but you could have the Monstars on your team and you still ain’t winning games if you’re shooting sub 30% from 3 on over 40 attempts. 1 of 82 tho, time to get right.

  13. StickSuspicious6650

Tillman and Jaren together held their own against a good team with bigs. But separately, the team suffered. With Tillman, there was no interior defense with Jaren. There was no rebounding. One Big can’t solve all yoru issue by themselves. If your offense is apoor as ours.

  14. new_skool91

Des was a beast though. If the Grizzlies can figure out how to get Jaren a few more than 9 shots, I think things won’t be so bleak.

  15. spacejambroni

Good news is there were moments in this game we likely won’t see again. Bane missing 3 layup drives nearly in a row, Luke going 0-5 from 3 mostly wide open, Drose leading or nearly leading the team in FGAs for half the game plus. There were some bright spots. Rebounding is going to be a hell of an issue if we don’t get another body. Aldama is coming back hopefully soon though.

Being down 4 of your top 8 or 9 players sucks. We just need to try and be .500 after 25 games.

  16. CausticBurn

I think we need to let Z or Roddy drive the ball more. Swinging the ball around the perimeter for a crappy 3 ain’t it

  17. Waffleshuriken

Without a true center to anchor the team down, its gonna be a struggle. Jaren just isnt for that role and while X’s energy and hustle is there, that can really only get him so far.

That being said on a positive note Bane looked good and the pace of the game noticably changed when he was on the court. Smart brought energy and looked pretty good as well. Z had some struggles but looked way better than last year. Like I said X played well all things considered (minus all the 3 attempts lol).

But at the end of the day the lack of a true big is gonna need to be addressed.

  18. Fezinator

    Rough game….rough second quarter.

Hopefully Luke finds his range again!

  19. zenmonkeyfish1

Bane and Z looked great. Z really contained Ingram on D and played with grit

Jaren has to step up on offense and rebounding or we will struggle hard

Smart is not a great primary ball handler, but I like his ability to at least make shots. Was worried that he injured Trey for no reason when he dove

Bench looked slow and timid to do anything. Terrible from 3

    I miss Ja 🙁

We need a rebounding big man ASAP or this season will be very long

  20. skimask453

i need jaren from last year who was averaging 25 a night

  21. riskit4chknbskt

JJJ taking 9 shots or so
    Not rebounding
Chucking up 50eleven threes because I mean… no rebounding equals more three chuckin right?

  22. Jenny_Fartaway

We knew we’d get killed on the glass, even before the Santi news. Even still though, the game would look a LOT different if we would have hit even just a few of the WIDE open deep looks we had. If we just hit those shots at an average clip, it’s a more competitive ending.

  23. lokivog

As great as JJJ’s blocks are, it would be so much more beneficial to the team if he just focused on rebounding. 10-15 rebounds per game > 3-4 blocks per game… Until they get a true center playing.

  24. StargazerNCC82893

We need a lot more from Jaren, but they will get there.

  25. Jassbale

Any updates on luke? Did he come back to the bench?

  26. NemuTheSheep

If Jaren and Luke are going to miss every three they take we aren’t going too win many games. Also if we play CJ every game we wouldn’t win too many games, he’s first team all Grizz killer.

Not gonna get to low off one game. On to… the Nuggets.

Alright, so starting 0-2 is not ideal…

  27. Juventus19

Gonna be a LOOOOOONG year on the glass
