I seriously wanna know what this trance that Hunter and capela have over hawks fans

  2. Unsungruin

An absolute classic Trae Young banger. Life wasn’t the same without watching him take horrible shots and turn the ball over.

This is who he is. We’ve been watching the same guy do the same stupid shit for five years. Why some of y’all are so adamant on defending mediocrity just baffles me.

  3. rlscuba_steve3000

Im amazed the game was that close.

  4. Frostythesnowmeme

Knicks and mavs losing today my agendas will be up at least

  5. Standard-Big1474

PJ Washington isn’t even *that* good but we’d be so much better off if we took him in the 2019 draft than the two dudes we did

  6. Julio_Freeman

Shit game, but it is what we’ve come to expect against the Hornets. Hopefully that will be our worst shooting night of the season. But it is really is painful to see Bey and JJ each make more impact plays than we see from Hunter in a week.

  7. Renverseur

    The Good:

    – Jalen Johnson

    – Transition game is soooo good

    – Saddiq Bey is a machine

    – Defense better than expected

    – Playmaking potential is skyhigh with OO, JJ and Trae on the floor

    The Bad:

    – Rusty

    – Ball movement could be better

    – PnRs where?

    – Offense looked a bit lost at times

    – 3PT not falling but the attempts are there

    – No Lauren Jbara

Long season ahead. Plenty of time for the team to gel and for Quin to mix and match lineups. My fave would be the Trae-JJ-Hunter-Bey-OO lineup which we didn’t see a whole lot of. I have a feeling this could’ve been the closing lineup if OO didn’t get into foul trouble early

  8. Eastatlantalit

Definitely agree w others that when things got tight everyone reverted to quick iso ball shots. When shit gets close you go to what you know . We have a lot of work to erase so many bad habits we developed under Nate . There was no ball movement late .

But despite all that when your starting back court plays that poorly you will lose most games .

  9. MiserableSoft2344

On a positive note Jalen Brunson hit straight backboard on two consecutive 3PT attempts to lose against the Celtics. Cheer up.

  10. trofesh195

Stop stressing about proven stars in this league Dejountrae will be just fine. We should be hyped that the unknown quantity that is Jalen Johnson is looking great. If jalen turns into a, stud we’re going to be a problem this season.

  11. Eastatlantalit

Not a fan of taking Bey out of the game late either

  12. No-Forever-6104

I’m following the until December rule bc it is a new system but I’m hoping Quin realizes the way forward is with JJ and oo in the lineup as well as the players not resorting to iso ball when shots aren’t falling

  13. Boraismybae

JALEN JOHNSON UP FOR THE MIP AWARD… BLOCKED BY HUNTER!!!! DEANDRE HUNTER WITH THE REJECTION

  14. RidsBabs

Well the 98-0 dream is dead. Guess I’ll have to settle with 97-1

  15. JKking15

    Some notes
1.) Transition offense looked good especially with JJ on the floor
2.) Speaking of JJ he was our best player tonight and looked great all around
3.) Terrible rebounding game need to be more aggressive on the glass and do better at positioning ourselves for rebounds especially with the quality of bigs we have
4.) Ball movement looked good at times but in the end we just reverted back to iso ball and pull up midranges way too often
5.) Terrible games from Trae and DJ shooting a combined 7/33 from the floor. Would loved to have seen Trae focus more on passing once the shots weren’t falling but that’s what happens when you live and die by Trae
6.) Overall this game didn’t feel that much different from the stuff we saw last season but it’s the first game and keep in mind If trae and Dj hit even 30% of their shots we win this game. Gotta knock the rust off and on to the next

  16. jharden10

I’m not going overreact—it’s the first game. However, I hope Trae Young and Dejounte Murray shake off the rust before things get ugly.

  17. Loverofsports2022

Trae and Murray built brick mansions tonight. This game was on them. If they aren’t shooting well, let others shoot. The rest of the players were ok except for JJ who was very good.

  18. Other_Ambition_5142

I was expecting rust so I’m not really upset about tonight, we couldn’t hit a long mid range-3pt shot to save our lives and still had a chance all night.

very happy with what I saw from jalen though. Dude was confident and wanted the ball and it showed, I feel like In the past he would be surprised by the ball/didn’t know what to w it a little bit. Not anymore

  19. hotgoldminer

same shit different coaching. we stay suckin.

  20. DougieJones22

Very ugly start to the year. Not going to win many games with your two best players go 7/33 from the field and 1/12 from 3. Doesn’t help that the team as a whole shot 5/29 from 3. Offense looked ok to start but it seems like guys reverted to bad habits when shots weren’t falling. Probably gonna take a while before everyone feels comfortable in the new scheme.

On the bright side, Jalen was awesome on both ends. Dude looks like an absolute stud. Wouldn’t be surprised if he’s in the starting lineup sooner rather than later if he keeps playing like this.

  21. Boraismybae

Schlenk gaslighted us into believing Dre and Cam were dribble pass shoot guys

  22. MiserableSoft2344

Y’all realize if DJ and Trae just make two more shots each we win right? We are not a play-in team.

  23. RoninFerret67

Trae came out and fired on no cylinders once again 🔥🔥🔥

  24. Your Hawks lose 110-1160 to the Charlotte Hornets due to herculean efforts from PJ Washington and Terry Rozier. Shooting-wise we looked like last year’s team shooting an abysmal 5/29 from three. It’s kind of disappointing considering the Hornets are missing Miles Bridges and the best player in the league Kai Jones. #Goatlife

Deandre Hunter Highlights: Deandre Hunter got his first points with a turnaround floater on Lamelo for an and-1. Unfortunately, he missed the free throw. With around 6 minutes in the first Dre had a nice driving layup. With under 7 in the second he had a rare deflection that went out of bounds. To start the third, he hit a highly contested midrange jumper over Hayward. With around 9 minutes in the third, Dre and Hunter had a bad defensive rotation. Neither one knew whether or not to switch on LaMelo or another player( I think Hayward) cutting to the paint. This led to both going to the paint and Ball with a wide-open three. With under 8, Dre hit his first three of the season. A catch and shoot from Trae. With around 6, he was unable to secure a relatively easy rebound. PJ Washington got it which led to 2 points for the Hornets. With around a minute left in the game, Dre decided to take a stepback three which bricked. He ended his night by fouling out by using a take foul due to the score in the final seconds.

Summary: Hunter ended with 9 points, 4 rebounds, and 1 assist in 30 minutes of game time. He did this in a mediocre 4/9 fg and a poor ¼ from three. Dre was mediocre as a whole. He went ¼ from three but if you watched the game three of those were wide open. He needs more shooting badges unlocked. He has no corner specialist, no claymore, no blinder, and no green machine. He plays as if he only has bronze catch and shoot and silver middy magician. The midrange was most of his shot diet outside of the 3-point shooting. He only had one shot inside the paint. The rebounding was mediocre. To be honest, I thought he had more rebounds. I felt he was fairly active in crashing the glass which was nice to see. The end result was still average though. Only one assist tonight. I did feel he was more willing to pass compared to what I’ve seen for his whole career. There was not a steal or block to speak of but the was fine defensively. A little bit below mid-performance for Dre. C- for Dre.

Saadiq Bey Highlights: With under 8 minutes in the quarter Bey activated his acrobat badge and was able to float in the air for a layup. On the next possession, he had a nice putback. With around 10 minutes left in the 4th quarter, Bey got an and-1 foul off a drive. He got hit in the face which got reviewed for a flagrant which was unsuccessful for the Hawks. With under 9 in the 4th, he got a wide-open layup on a fastbreak. With under 8 minutes, he got another driving and-1 layup to go.

Summary: Bey was very good tonight. He ended with 15 points, 5 rebounds, 5 steals (career high) on 6/12 FG and ¼ from three. I loved Bey’s aggressiveness and his ability to put pressure on the paint. He was also able to put pressure on the offensive glass with 3 offensive rebounds. I’m surprised at his three-point numbers, I felt he made more. The defense was good tonight with a new career high in steals. I feel he got most of them through help defense in the paint and good team defense. In all, he was one of the few players who looked like he wanted to win tonight. A for Bey.

Clint was fine in general. With around 4 minutes in the first Clint had a nice putback shot of a Jalen miss. With under 4 minutes in the second quarter, he had another putback off a Trae miss. He bullied his way to the rim for the layup. With under 5 in the 4th, Capela had a rim grazing dunk. With a minute left, Clint had a boneheaded play. He got the ball and had not too contest a layup but instead, he passed out which resulted in a turnover. Keep in mind he hasn’t passed out the whole game when he got an offensive rebound. He ended with 15 points, 13 rebounds, and 1 steal on 6/10 fg and ¾ ft. Clint was good on the boards tonight. He gave the team some second chances with 6 offensive rebounds. I feel like there were some he should have passed out on. Instead, he continued to try and go up against players in the paint once the rebound was secured. At least he has some success in this regard. Other than the bad pass with a minute left in the game I thought CC was fairly impactful. B- for Clint.

Jalen Johnson Highlights: With around 4 minutes in the first, JJ had a nice pass-in to Capela but the pass was broken up. Clint got hit in the face and had to be taken to the locker room. With under 3 minutes, JJ caught a lob for Bogi. A couple of possessions later he had an energetic defensive rebound hustling before the defense could get to it. With around a minute he had 2 consecutive dunks one off a Bogi pass on the fast break, the second Trae threw a pass off the backboard for a trailing Jalen. This one was kind of risky because Jalen was like 2 seconds behind. The next possession he got a foul call on another break when he went for a layup. He went ½ at the line here. With around 8 minutes in the second quarter, he hit a 3-pointer and was the first half to enter double digits. With under 5, he worked in a break again, grabbing a rebound passing to Murray, then getting the ball back for a layup. With around a minute left in the third, Jalen muscled his way to the rim from a shot. To end the third he scored on an out-of-bounds play which was a layup at point-blank range. With under 10 Jalen took JT Thor off the dribble and got to the rim for a layup. For his 21st point, he got to the middle and made a jumper off the dribble.

JJ Summary: Jalen ended with 21 points (career high), 7 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals, and 1 block on 9/13 fg and ⅓ from three. He was excellent tonight especially offensively. He was aggressive in getting to the paint. He excelled in general in transition and the break. His ability to grab a rebound and throw it up the court helped create multiple opportunities for the team. Defensively he showed off some tools and created havoc at times. The free throws need some work, his game kinda involves getting fouls so he needs to do better than 1/2. I also loved that Quinn rode him while he was hot. I think he was playing for a 12-minute stretch and got about 30 minutes of playing time. All positive from me tonight. A+ for JJ. Hopefully we see more of this.

AJ had an awesome highlight play. With three minutes left in the first AJ hit a crossover and as his defender recovered he hit a nice spin move getting him past the defender. He then got a layup to go over the helping big. With under 2 minutes, he was able to get past LaMelo Ball but got blocked on the way up. Other than that not much in 10 minutes. He ended with 2 points and 2 rebounds.

  25. techno-wizardry

On the bright side, Jalen Johnson is that dude and he should be starting instead of Hunter at this point.

  26. Eastatlantalit

I’m not gonna over react to one game . But we may well be 3-7 to start the season

  27. LiteLancerlot

Here we go again, I can smell a .500 season

  28. Shade_Raven

Stop giving hornets players career games

  29. Eastatlantalit

Loved how mad and unhappy Trae sounded after the game he knows it was on him and said as much

  30. Worldhopper194

So like…we lost, and it sucks, but if you told me Trae and Dejounte would go 7-33 combined FG shooting, and we would legitimately be in it late in the 4th quarter, I would have thought you were crazy. We’re definitely seeing defensive improvement and Jalen Johnson is poised to have a breakout year.

  31. OkPublic3951

I don’t think people realize how long the nba season ends all the another .500 team comments are ridiculous if you aren’t happy with how much better the offense and defense looked tonight you don’t watch enough basketball, like someone else said if trae and DJ BOTH MAKE 1 THREE A PEIECE WE WIN THIS GAME!!!! Its our first game it’s a long season we took great shots tonight nothing was forced we just got to hit those wide open looks, Deandre hunter had three wide open threes and even if he goes 2-3 on those we are still in this game, we are just missing one piece of our puzzle just got to stay patient, GO HAWKS🔴⚪️🟡

  32. Ezerton21

Solid start, terrible finish – cicadas basketball is back, baby.

Jokes and unnecessary losses aside, I’m still tremendously optimistic about this squad and coaching arrangement.
