Kristaps Porzingis bails out Boston Celtics in win over New York Knicks



The Celtics opened their season in New York and it looked pretty good until the fourth quarter when they started to play like their old selves (not good). But they were able to get it together down the stretch behind a nine-point stretch from Porzingis to close out the win. John Karalis of Boston Sports Journal gets into what he liked (Porzingis, Jayson Tatum’s early dominance, the fact that they held on to win), what he didn’t like (Jaylen Brown’s game, the rebounding, bench production), and things that made him go “hmmm,” (the fourth quarter execution).

    I don't care how people try to spin it. JB is awful! I hate everything about the dudes game. I dont trust his decision making, his handle, passing, ball stops on offensive whenever he touches it, and I HATE watching him shoot freethrows…that little pause he has at the top of his shot is so awkward to watch. Should have traded him for KD in Brooklyn years ago. We are paying him 300mil for gods sake!!!!! 😂😂😂

    JB almost blew us the game with those lazy passes back-to-back then follows it up with blowing his defensive coverage and fouls for a AND1. SMH.

    It's only the first game but it looks like KP is the number 2 for the Celtics to go all the way. KP gives the Celtics a different dimension on offense and still maintains the defensive presence.

    Here's my primary problem with Jaylen Brown. If I told you that one player is going to fall asleep in the 4th quarter and literally pass the ball to the other team from an out of bounds play, who would you guess that player to be? Exactly, Jaylen Brown. Dude has to keep his head in the game for every second he's in there and he just can't seem to consistently do it.

    This was a game we definitely would've lost last year. KP made a great debut for us last night and Tatum did he thing as well. Still early and its gonna take some time for this team to gel and i know JB struggled last night but he'll bounce back.

    Man I don’t know why this analysis is eluding literally every broadcaster. The reason they stopped hitting paint is the Knicks went nuts offensively. We took ball out of hoop all second half. That means we lose all pace. If we lose all pace that’s not Jaylens night. Kristaps will go big in these types. Jaylen will go big in fast pace strong defense runs that generate transition. We can play both ways now.

    The rebounding is I think largely learning to play with kp. He’s challenging everything, Celtics need to backfill. That’ll be recognized and fixed.

    I like you man because you are telling the good and the bad. Man they aint paying JB that money for that bs play. The Knicks missed a ton of free throws

    they need to use the bench and let those players improve through having playing time – Brissett, Stevens are defensive dogs and good rebounders, Svi can shoot, and they should let Queta roll with his energy – mix these guys in with the starting 6

    Like KP, JT, Derrick White, blocked shots, critical timeouts you mentioned in the Fourth. Dislike's Turnovers, second chance points, second half giving up leads, JB. Overall not bad for the Season opener on the road. The Celtics will need to play better on this Friday's home opener against the Miami heat.
