I was surprised by this at first but he is cheap and we are an expensive team.
Not surprised by this despite his lack of production.
Because he was a late first round pick, his 3rd year option is pretty low, something like 2.6 million. That’s barely above the minimum so there’s not much of a cost in keeping him (this isn’t a Culver situation where you’re staring at a 7 million dollar contract for an end of bench guy).
And if the team does need to shed that money, I can’t imagine there won’t be a simple path to moving him, either by dumping him outright or attaching some cash/a second to incentivize a team.
Plus, he’s generally seen as a good culture and locker room guy who is a hard worker. Those guys usually get a bit more time to figure things out.

When you’re projected to be as far into the luxury tax as the Wolves, you really have to exercise your rookie contract options. Makes the whiff on the WMJ pick that much worse
