The History Of Offseason Trades That Actually Worked | Islands In The League (Full Episode)

It’s Islands In The League (Season 2!) presented by Draft Kings. We’re so psyched to be back talking hoops, history and more. In today’s episode we do a super deep dive on NBA offseason trades that actually worked. With so many offseason trades occurring (Damian Lillard to the Milwaukee Bucks, Jrue Holiday to The Boston Celtics, Chris Paul to The Golden State Warriors, Bradley Beal to The Phoenix Suns), we decided to provide some historical context. Then we transition to HALLOWEEN! It’s scary szn so we decided to do an NBA costume contest and JJ is the only judge. And finally we welcome in our resident sports betting expert, Josh Appelbaum, to talk about the NBA playoff make or miss bets between The Memphis Grizzlies, Indiana Pacers, Orlando Magic and Chicago Bulls.

  1. Thanks for watching, everyone. So psyched to have this series back. FYI – We'll have a Harden reaction vid later today!

  2. Stop saying ā€œthe bubble doesnā€™t have an asteriskā€ that just makes it sound like it does.
Just say the lakers won the next season after getting AD and leave it at that.

  3. Basketball now is truly a team sport, and it takes more than a month of training camp for that to happen. Thereā€™s no ā€œsystemā€ like football or creative roster juggling like baseball, no you need a team that knows each otherā€™s tendencies in all situations. Last yearā€™s Lakers are a great example: assembled on the fly and not immediately great, until they gelled. Still, when they met a fully matured team like Denver they were cooked, but letā€™s see how they fare this season. Likewise with the Suns and OKC and the Warriors: same core superstars with radically different supporting casts. Iā€™m still betting on TEAM and thatā€™s the joker and his gang in Denver. They brush aside all but the best teams.

  4. Funny Iā€™m watching and Iā€™m like none of these are close to the goat greatest of all thunder and mr thunder with wives doing the white men canā€™t jump and then you pop it up

  5. Didn't Wiggins get traded for DAngelo Russel a few years back? The Warriors definitely don't win in 2022 without Wiggs.

  6. The fact that you guys keep mentioning that there is no asterisk on the bubble championship indicates to me that there is an asterisk and you want to change the perception.

  7. I can't help but wonder if JJ's opinion on the glorified rec league title (2020) would be different if his livelihood didn't rely on the mouse, or if it isn't common knowledge the mouse fires people who don't go along with its narrative.

Not that i would blame him for putting his livelihood first, but i don't know many people who think it's a legit title. No home court, no hostile territory, no fans, no travel, no real pressure since the alternative was lockdowns, isolation, divided society and death.

Just nothing about it stcks up to a real title, not to mention a 6 month break to get healthy.
