[Russo] Russell Westbrook on him looking happier on the Clippers: “Well, it’s a long list but we don’t have time for that today. But I think, one, I just think I’m very grateful for an opportunity and a team that wanted me during a tough time overall for myself and basketball wise.”

  1. I really hope he wings a championship. will cement him as one of the best PG in the history of the NBA

  2. Feeling wanted is a pretty important part of a good relationship.

  3. >Russell Westbrook pointed to something Scott Brooks told him back in Oklahoma City: “Just smile. When you smile, you play better, you energy’s better. … I always keep that in my mind when I get sidetracked, always make sure I’m smiling and my energy’s in the right place.”

  4. Russ is awesome, radiates such a great energy at all times.

Russ surrounded by better players and shooters is where I love him most, instead of being relied on to be the best or put in a team with little-no shooters. I feel like he can be a better 2008 Rondo for this team.

He’s been phenomenal since the end of the last season too. You can see the happiness in his game.

For one thing he doesn’t have LeBron’s mouthpiece McMenamin publicly calling him a vampire this season.

I’m glad he’s enjoying basketball again, when he was with the Lakers it was like an avalanche of toxicity and blame; which was somewhat his doing.

  8. FlashyClaim

I really want Russ to have his first ring with us. Please, basketball gods, lift the curse for my vampire WB

  9. unclehelpful

Surely he should have dressed as Dracula for Halloween on account of the vampireness.

I think it’s worth watching the clip. Westbrook’s smile says a whole lot.

I dont think Harden is going to be a detriment to Russ. Russ looks like he’s been willing to sacrifice with the Clippers and do whatever is necessary. Just adding another OKC guy on the Clippers to root for

  12. I agree with the man. But it’s what can sometimes drive fans mad for not understanding. He takes a terrible shot or makes a bad pass. Okay it happens. Next you thing you see is the dude running back up the court smiling. Makes you think he doesn’t really give a shit – yet its actually the opposite lol.

It’s pretty incredible to see the turnaround he has had in the last 12-18 months.

He was one of the worst players in the league on the Lakers and was on his way out of the league, and now he’s played himself back into the Clippers rotation and is definitely a serviceable guard.

It’s hard to smile on a team where you take the blame for everything that’s going bad despite being the only player who shows up every game. I’m really happy for Russ. I hope he finally wins the chip this year, and have that big revenge game against the Lakers tomorrow

Ball dominant good players should never play with LeBron/Luka types. Especially if you’re not a great shooter. You’ll never be better than those guys so you’ll be expected to play off the ball way more, and it’s much harder to find an offensive rhythm.

Kyrie works because he can shoot and can be effective off ball

  16. I’m just glad everybody stopped hating on this man every single night.

  17. giventofly2

You had idiots at that echochamber The Ringer claiming he was done after Lakers and would be out of the league

  18. Cornchip97

Its a lot easier for a team to want you at 3.8 mil than 44 mil.

When you make more than Lebron and AD your going to be judged differently. It’s not Russ’ fault and the Lakers traded for that contract willingly but we’re talking ~40% of the cap vs ~3%. Any team in the league would love him at that price.

  19. AmuseDeath

He’s just in a better place and he’s a good guy.

On the Lakers, it was rough. It’s incredibly hard to play game after game when hundreds of people hate you, yell at you and don’t have faith in you. It takes an immense amount of strength to persevere and keep going when nobody believes in you. I’m sure it affected his mental health.

I’ll be honest and say I was very skeptical when we took him in. I thought we were being desperate. But it has worked out extremely well and it’s just a great comeback story and now I’m rooting for him.

  20. Russ got so many haters, I honestly don’t get it why.

  21. There is no bigger disparity in how someone is portrayed by sports media and how someone actually is than Russ. I’d live for that dude to be my teammate.

Not that his tenure with LAL was healthy but it’s pretty clear that the spotlight is just bigger there than anywhere else in the league.
