Chuck on KAT/Gobert: That was one of the stupidest trades ever. You get two guys over 7ft in a little man’s league & neither one good enough on the offensive end, they’re not like Shaq. Rudy & KAT don’t dominate in the post enough to justify playing 2 bigs together. Like Hawks just stomped them

I just still can’t believe this trade. Especially after seeing Kessler last year.

  2. Arooooooooooooooo

Batum had KAT locked down in the play in game couple of seasons ago.

least boneheaded twolves front office move

  5. kimsbooty

Is he really saying kat isn’t a good offensive player because he isn’t like shaq? Or am i missing something

  6. nowhathappenedwas

It was a bad trade, but these are dumb reasons. KAT is great offensively, and the fact that he doesn’t need to be a post player is the only reason to have thought it might work.

“They’re not like Shaq” is not analysis.

  7. Solid-Confidence-966

The KAT disrespect is getting out of hand, I know he’s been a little bit disappointing in the post season but how many other bigs can offensively give 23/3 on 60%+ TS while proving elite floor spacing?

  8. MickeyRingsDontCount

for reference, the Hawks were down 21 in the 3rd quarter and won by 14

they played their only 7 footer, Capela, just 7 minutes in the 2nd half and went with 6’8 Okongwu and 6’9 Jalen Johnson to matchup against KAT/Gobert for most of the comeback

  9. StreamingPirate1

The biggest issue here is the haul the Jazz received for Gobert. They fucked up the market for big men completely, and Minnesota are clowns for offering so much for a player they didnt even need.

  10. No-Equipment-20

He’s right but I think more of the issue is Gobert rather than KAT.

Offensively Gobert is extremely one dimensional; he can only screen and roll and his post game is non-existent. Defensively he’s an elite rim protector but can get switch hunted by faster guards.

If you play another center next to Gobert it needs to be someone like KAT just for the sake of spacing. Gobert is a max contract player, making $41M/year and if he played like it I think the pairing could actually be really good.

He doesn’t need to be quicker or suddenly turn into a jump shooter, but if he could develop a decent enough post-up game to draw a double and effectively pass out of it that would do wonders.

    Chuck is right again…

We all knew this when the deal was made.

The wolves just aren’t a winning franchise. It’s disappointing that ownership and the FO has continued this legacy of incompetence for so long.

  12. SwampFlowers

Yeah but in fairness, the Hawks have legendary paint protector Trae Young on their team so it’s not like anyone’s getting a layup.

  13. bravistickle88

Little mans league, eh? Who were the MVPs of the last five years again?

  14. Bajecco

It’ll never make sense. I’ll go to my grave convinced that Tim Connelly is either a blood relative to Danny Ainge or owed Ainge something. Maybe both. How the heck could an executive with Connelly’s experience think this trade was good for the organization that employed him? It’s too friggin weird.

  15. While I agree its not great right now. Why are we taking Chuck’s opinion about basketball at all like its important? He doesn’t watch and certainly didn’t comment on them being up 20 in the first half at all. Its always just dog piling on small sample sizes that irks me. Also using Shaq as a comparison of a player being bad is downright idiotic. “Player X is bad because he isn’t as good as a top 10 ALL TIME PLAYER” lol.

  16. They traded for the wrong guy in Utah lol

  17. ChiefSoldierFrog

The Thunder lost the play in last year against the Wolves but they had no fear running their small lineup against them. They had Jalen Williams on KAT. I think in that game they had stretches where Giddey guarded Gobert.

  18. Mygaffer

I will truly not understand the why of that trade. To give up so much to bring in so much salary attached to such a limited guy.

In Denver people were saying Tim Connelly was one of the best GM’s in the league but maybe it was something in the air up in the mile high city.

  19. hotdogflavoredblunt

Sometimes I think chuck is losing his edge and then he comes around with a completely lucid, accurate analysis like this

  20. Flaky_Scar_8388

I agree with this. The fit isn’t right. For those critical of Barkley’s comments about KAT not being good offensively. He isn’t bad but he isn’t good either. He is a good shooter for a big man but is way too soft around the rim. He floats too much on the perimeter. When he is shooting good he can score at will but when he is off you see 8 point playoff performances. If he was good offensively that wouldn’t happen. I can name at least 5 bigs better than him right now.

  21. raki016

We didnt lose because of KAT- Gobert.

And honestly, it’s not the talent that’s going to doom this pairing. It’s the attitude/culture.

  22. Fun_Location4905

Walker Kessler is honestly better than Gobert. They could have gotten Durant with all those picks or Kyrie, or siakam for half that picks they gave up.

  23. TheBottomLine_Aus

I mean their issue is Anthony Edwards is a shit facilitator.

Conley shows what you can do with Gobert. You have Trae with him and Gobert averages 18-20.

He just isn’t enough for what they gave up though.

  24. SunstormGT

Not getting into the trade, but saying KAT is not good enough on the offensive end is just BS.

  25. LavenderAutist

The level of rationalizing by Timberwolves fans is historic

  26. UntrainedFoodCritic

I’ve said for 2 years gobert is the worst max player and nobody agreed. Now?

  27. ConstantTelevision93

I still don’t understand how someone wasn’t fired over this trade?

  28. Unfair-Club8243

It’s such a bad trade it literally laughs in the face of reality like we all had to rationalize it because it was so unreal we felt we must be missing something

  29. StormSaniWater

Def a top 4 worse trade in league history

  30. johnnygrant

I still don’t know what the Timberwolves GM saw about Gobert’s playoff performances that made him bet the house on that trade.

It was such an idiotic move at the time, and will remain such.

  31. murrayforthree

All part of Calvin Booth’s plan. Good work agent T.

  32. thegreaterfool714

I still have no idea what the fuck the wolves were thinking. You could t even pull this trade in fucking 2K that’s how ass it is.

  33. spazz720

I to this day still do not understand the trade.

  34. w3bCraw1er

Whatever people say but IMO KAT is a bust. What a soft dude with so much potential and skills.
