Raptors forget the gameplan against Sixers

The Toronto Raptors rode a wave of momentum into Philadelphia to take on their old bench boss and his new Sixers crew featuring Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey and resident scrub pest Patrick Beverley. 8 minutes into the first quarter, they lost their swag, their mojo, their offense and their minds.

  1. I can't blame Scottie, still was our best player by a mile. I'm just tired this roster. Also I don't think this was a bad game at all I think you're grasping for shit to whine about. 2/7 is whatever, his shooting was always unsustainable. I never expected him to hit more than 35% at best and he's still blowing that out of the water, also shot 9/16 in total and 7/9 on 2's with Embiid in the paint. Dude did what he could after the ankle tweak. The blame is entirely on the supporting cast.

  2. It was a horrible game BUT every team goes through a bad day match. It's bad day match, let's turn the page for the next one

  3. I watched a few videos last year and you and your followers praised scottie Barnes and said he’d make a difference as the #1 option which he’s been this season and our offence hasn’t looked this bad in a decade. His defence has been amazing this season but he shouldn’t be the #1 option on offence we’re not making the playoffs with him as our offensive focus, let OG and Siakam carry them on that end and we’ll make the playoffs at least. Unless they just wanna tank and keep that top 6 protected pick and trade Siakam one or the other

  4. Siakem is all I have to say. He looks listless out there honestly starting to think he didn’t do anything all off season and is coming in out of shape and out of practice. How can a so called all nba player after being embarrassed by the same team come out and put up 10 points and 6boards. At rate he’s going he gunna be lucky to get a vet minimum by end of season. I know I’m overreacting but I really needed his even empty calorie points for my fantasy team and he isn’t even doing that. Only team I absolutely hate losing to can’t stand embiid.

  5. I don't get the negativity from people these two 6ers games some of the worst schedule losses I've seen in following Raps for 20 years, second night of b2b both times while 6ers sitting and waiting both times with Raps former coach plus Jak looking slow imo and no Koloko we had no shot. As someone who was "negative" about this team last year I've been pleasantly surprised and expect it to get better as the season goes on

  6. I've been saying Siakam is a selfish player for two years now. Nobody wants to admit it but he definitely is.

Not doing the little things like…
boxing out, failing to rotate properly, refusing to set a screen for teammates, cutting to the freaking basket when you don't have the ball,

And my favorite… Not coming to post-game interviews when your team loses but only showing up to post-when your team wins.

    How is this not selfish???

  7. When I saw the refs give Embid 9 points in the first few minutes and cripple our aggressiveness, I knew the refs were not going to let the Raptors win. There is no way the NBA will ever let the Raptors win the trophy again.

  8. I was probably foolish, but I expected more from Siakam this year (scratch that I was). Maybe they’re tired, small sample size, but it looks like some of the time team is playing the game to win basketball games, which is a team effort, and other times there are stretches where some players are obviously checked out or suddenly remember that they personally gotta eat but don’t know how .. you can feel where team identity breaks down for stretches.

  9. Overall a listless game from some a key players (siakim) this is definitely a year if experimentation. Compared to last year.. even the baseline lows are better. So theres that every game. Lets call it the butterfly sesson. Gary trent. 1 on 5 drive attempts? Yikes

  10. One bright spot that seems to be working that i dont know if youve tslked about is the schroeder and jacob give and go pick and rolls actually working. I wimce every time they do it because they seem to have no space between them yet Deniss passing is really good

  11. Their issue against the 76ers was pace!!!
Same issue as last time they played, the game was being played at a pace that 76ers were better at. Either:
    1. 76ers set the tempo
    2. Both teams play at a similiar tempo naturally

Either way leaders on the Raps (coach, pg, star players) have to catch this right away and change the pace. Either go even faster OR slow down.
The pace the Raps play at are going to give other team fits, but not the 76ers, they need to add another dimension to their game.
Remember Steve Nash's Phoenix Suns they were not the most skilled team but they beat you with pace (or most Dantoni teams). 90's basketball had a lot more of these subtler dynamics, probably lost on teams now where everyone runs and shoots 3s. Best teams adapt quickest.

  12. Why would try the the Malachi/Boucher/Trent trio…twice!

It looked really bad that first time

  13. It’s time to seriously look at pulling the trigger on a Pascal trade. Take the hawks offer and move on! We already mismanaged our assets grossly and you better believe there’s no major W’s coming from this. Pascal and Barnes just don’t work as pairing

  14. We will continue to adjust and improve to the new system, new coach and new roster – there is lots to clean up but this is a pretty fair representation of both these teams – we lost to a better team. We lost every quarter by a few points which added up to 15 in the end. They have a better centre, better point guard – Oubre and Harris played well. GTJ was poor – he will improve but he is really struggling to fit into the offense – all the ball movement is throwing him off. He always got his shots from draw and kick or a few dribbles and pull up – he is not used to being part of an offense with more passing, motion and cutting – having trouble moving without the ball. OG's defence was amazing but it is a disaster whenever he puts the ball on the floor. Everyone is excited about Scottie firing away from 3 – they are open looks he is just not going to knock them down efficiently enough – the shot prep and release are improved but Scotty taking 10 3s a night is not going to be a receipe for winning in the long run. I kinda disagree there was a lack of heart – they threw bodies at Embiid and were all over him when he shot – he is just bigger and better than anyone we have. I go back to the same thing – we don't have enough shooting – we can run a great offense and get open looks that we can;t knock down at a high enough rate to beat most teams. Siakam doesn't need to step away – we are 5 games in. He went from being the total focal point of the team to being another player out there – he has to make by far the biggest adjustment of everyone. He is acting like a pro – he has been told to move the ball so he is but the problem is that he is looking to pass when he has clear advantages. Maybe we don;t want to go back to give it to Siakam and stand back but he is our best scorer by quite a bit at this point – he has to take it when opportunity presents.

  15. One last comment – the techs are inexcusible. I like this new rule because I get so sick of the complaining – refs aren't perfect but they don't decide if any particular team makes the playoffs or not. You complain to the refs they are going to tee you up – plain and simple. A player doesn't complain and the ref say "me bad" and reverses the call. You can either challenge or move on to the next play – or do what we did, complain about the call – the call stands – opponent gets a free shot and the ball back. I realize it can be emotional but these are some of the MOST AVOIDABLE mistakes. When a real dog gets upset, they get the hell back and defense and steal the ball back, lock your man up, block a shot or clean up the rebound. God that frustrates me.
