Jaylen Brown “mixed reviews” on NBA In Season Tournament | Pregame Interview

Jaylen Brown talked about going into Celtics vs Nets without Derrick White and the NBA starting the in season tournament this week, which will start for Boston at home next Friday against Brooklyn. Brown said players had mixed reactions to the idea when the union discussed it.

“Create more revenue, get more fans watching, keep people more engaged…this time of year, viewership takes a big dip…we agreed more revenue couldn’t hurt.”

“It’s definitely mixed reviews all amongst the league.”

  1. What do people think of these ideas?

If the In-Season-Tourney is trying to replicate Euro soccer, they should have the IST winner play against the Finals winner for another trophy right before the next season starts like the Community Shield, or Super Cup. If both have the same winner then have the 2 runner-ups play 1 game to decide who plays against the winner (kind of like a revenge opportunity).

And they should get rid of the East/West categorizations for the IST and just go with overall records from previous year. East vs West is what the post season is for and using overall records will make more interesting groupings.
And if you want to compare with European soccer structure then why not include G-League for potential upsets and drama, as well as giving some spotlight to your lower league.

And for added player motivation, why not award the IST winner the prize of being able to move one spot up on the conference ranking position at the end of the regular season.

While we're at it, why not reduce regular season to around 60 games so the players can play with more meaningful minutes in both competitions.

  2. This is exactly why the league is watered, and I canceled league pass since 2020.

  3. Is he losing his hair? Not a lot of rows in there. Derrick White gonna have company.

  4. This tournament is completely pointless. Were trying to win the finals, and I cant be bothered to care about anything else. This doesnt matter whatsoever. The only thing this does is give teams with no hope of winning it all a chance to feel special. I really hope it flops. Sorry for being negative but this is just gimmicky.

  5. It's stupid as fuck, it's a poor man's tournament. If I'm celtics I'm not playing none of my guys in it

  6. I love how he is honest that the tourney is 100% about revenue and getting more fans watching and really has nothing to do with quality of play. It is marketing.
