James Wiseman stats so far this season

After 7 games played, Wiseman has had 6 DNP-CDs and one game played.

In the one game he played, he had 4 fouls in 6 minutes, and was a -15 in a game that the Pistons lost by 9 points. He had the worst plus minus in the game despite only playing 6 minutes.

I know a lot of people thought that the Warriors just weren’t the right situation for Wiseman, and part of his failure to develop was due to the specific team environment. But when you can’t even make it onto the court for a young rebuilding team in your 4th season, you’re just not an NBA player.

As for the Warriors, this has to go down as one of the worst draft picks of all time. If they had gotten absolutely nothing for the number 2 pick, it would have been better. If they had not played him so much in the 2020-2021 season, they almost certainly would’ve made the playoffs. Wiseman was a one-man tank squad his entire Warriors tenure. Given how good they looked at the end of the season, they probably would’ve been capable of a deep playoff run. When getting the number 2 pick manages to hurt your team, that’s a colossal failure.

I legit forgot Wiseman existed until this very post.

  2. FreddyAllstar

I wonder how many times Draymond punched him and it wasnt filmed.

  3. newlocker010122

Pistons traded 4 second rounders for him lol

  4. hot-sauce-950

At least he got a ring and $40M which even after taxes nets him close to $20M. Amazing head start in life

  5. Honestly man it’s rough to say but it seems like he won’t be in the league after this contract is up.

  6. wavetoyou

He’s young enough to still have multiple career arcs. Let’s see if he stays hungry and figures something out bc physically he’s got it. I wouldn’t bet on it though

  7. AdulasMoonblade

I remember when this sub was making fun of the Wolves for taking Ant over him

  8. UnhingedSupernova

Which team would want him to get minutes? The Wizards? Back up Wemby for the Spurs?

  9. With the amount of shit I got for ever doubting the Wiseman (not saying, not “ranking” and all this expert stuff, just not being SURE he WILL fuck us all up), I do feel quite of fun seeing that he went to a very weak, very young team centered purely on developing youth, where he at age 22 is older than anyone in the starting lineup… and he still is unplayable lol.

Dude’s such a bust that he’s in a team with Marvin Bagley and Marvin Bagley looks miles better lol. Like Bagley’s legit good (as a player for Pistons’ bench).

Personally for him, I feel no joy because all the reports said that he is a hard working and well-respected man who did his best to develop. But not fitting among, like, 500 best in the world at some job and “only” making 40 million dollar before you retire at 23 is hardly gonna make me shed a tear about that.

I don’t feel bad for Wiseman at all, the Warriors did everything in their power to develop him. They hired specialist coaches to work with just him, molly coddled him through his first three years in the NBA hoping for a spark. He just doesn’t have it. If he never plays basketball again he’s set for life because of his rookie contract.

I *do* feel bad for Patrick Baldwin Jr and Ryan Rollins – those two actually have genuine NBA player-level potential, but they were last in line on a Warriors roster with too many young prospects waiting to be developed and were essentially neglected their entire first year in the NBA. Then they got traded to the Wizards, which is probably the closest thing the NBA has to purgatory, where their careers will most likely just wither and die because nobody on the Wizards is going to bother to help develop them there either. They never had a chance.

He’s a bust, but shit, warriors won a ring shortly after so it isn’t like drafting him set the franchise back or anything

  12. DynamixRo

Monty’s just fulfilling all the dark fantasies he had about Ayton.

  13. herseyhawkins33

Wiseman has had chances, but not playing him at all unless one of Duren/Stewart/Bagley are hurt does feel like Monty just has no interest in trying to develop him.

  14. Kwami brown was better than him at least brown was a decent post defender compared to wiseman

That draft pick will always be a huge what-if for GS. Who knows what would’ve happened if they went with LaMelo but there are so many interesting thought experiments vis-a-vis Klay’s injury, Poole’s ascension and flame-out, the ups and downs of their last three seasons and their trades—and especially non-trades. Hard to argue they didn’t make out okay with a championship over that three-year span but there was a chance that they might have pulled off the two-timeline scenario and been at least more competitive in the out years and even better this year (and maybe more willing to let Klay go or package LaMelo for another star).

  16. Warriors failing to draft well at number 2 saved us from more Warriors domination. I see that as a win and to be fair 2020 draft was very weak.

  17. That is CAP about 2021. They were on fumes by the play-in. No chance they would go on a deep run beginning with an upset on a 1 or 2 seed.

No Klay, even Oubre had gotten hurt. Kent Bazemore the starter. A bad bench of just Poole, Toscano, and Mulder.

Ya to see that the Pistons aren’t even giving him 2nd unit minutes as a number 2 pick is pretty awful. I hate teams prioritizing drafting for height and athletic ability so much and just assuming they can teach someone how to play basketball at an nba level. Such low BBIQ on a team like the warriors that plays with a system **REQUIRING** high BBIQ was a huge mistake.

Positive note, I’m glad the organization learned from that failed two timeline experiment. They traded Wiseman for a win-now move in Gary Payton II. They traded the young guys Rollins and Baldwin after their rookie year. They drafted a four year college guy in Trayce, someone who’s older than our 3rd year players, and comes with plenty of college experience for the win-now timeline. They also drafted Podz who’s only a year younger than our 3rd year guys. Going for experience and BBIQ for the win-now timeline over athleticism and hoping they can teach them how to play basketball.

GS should’ve traded down in the draft if they weren’t going to pick LaMelo and given themselves more chances at quality role players than swinging for the fences with Wiseman in a Covid year draft with so many uncertainties.

  20. KingRicimer

Safe to say he is the worst draft pick since Anthony Bennett?

  21. bl123123bl

Dudes touch around the basket is so nice but he just hasn’t put any other skill together at this point

That 1st game against the nets was magical

  22. Worldly-Fox7605

Wiseman contrary to his name has no sneseof basketball iq. It wasn’t just a moment of the wariros system being hard to learn but the dude looks like he has little to no understanding of basketball concepts offense or defense.

Whenever he is in a situation on the court that requires processed thinking he never makes a decision that is both correct and timely.

Been saying this since I forst saw him play on teh warriors.

  23. eggnogeggnogeggnog

Hey at least this isn’t another Killian Hayes post

  24. basher505

Who cares already? The hate boner some people have for this guy is just so weird to me.

  25. Middle-Welder3931

Covid messed up the draft process for a lot of teams.

Warriors with Lamelo or Haliburton probably win more than one championship from 2020 onwards. Although I’m not sure Poole and Melo on the same team would have been a good idea.

Wiseman, though? Kid should have gone to college for a couple of years, or G League Ignite. He clearly wasn’t ready for the league.

  26. beaverlyknight

I know it’s been said a hundred times but Jesus imagine the Warriors with LaMelo.

  27. just_cows

I remember being so worried that when the Wolves sent Wiggins to GSW that this pick was going to turn into a HOFer…. Fucking lol

  28. Slippinjimmyforever

James Wiseman, the man who lost a rotation spot to Marv Bagley, is simply not an NBA player.

  29. The Warriors winning a championship 2 years _after_ a bust #2 pick has got to be an NBA stats anomaly

  30. Wild to think he might be an even bigger bust than Bagley. Bagley still wins on opportunity cost though…

  31. Misterstaberinde

The warriors made a bunch of really bad moves and Wiseman is one of the worst. Having Steph really smooths over a lot of things for a franchise.

  32. Gamerxx13

You hit sometimes and you don’t. Warriors keep trying. Also won a championship with him on the team. Got to take risks and got to cut your loses it’s just a sunk cost. It looks like they hit on their other picks, especially this year Jackson-Davis doesn’t have the ceiling of potential of wiseman but can add value right now and very seasoned playing 4 years in college

  33. FormerlyShawnHawaii

Whoever told Wiseman to sit and not play the year before his Draft is obviously some kind of genius and definitely an evil villain
