Seven games into the season the Raptors bench has been terrible beyond any pessimistic expectation.

I considered labelling this NSFW.

Otto Porter Jr. Is +30, checkmate liberal

OPJ has been the only good one and we barely play him because we’re worried we’ll break him lol

  3. Ma_Pies

I’m not worry about GTJ’s points as his shots will come as always but I do wish he’d be more of a playmaker like he was in the preseason. Was really hoping Jalen would be a difference maker off the bench.

Despite Gradey not making his shots I’ve really liked his off ball movement/passing.

I hope they let him continue getting minutes

I generally like to panic but I feel we gotta be patient w this one. Half these guys have never played together and everyone is learning a new system under Darko. It’s not surprising there’s some growing pains. Definitely would like to see Precious and GTJ find their groove tho, hard not to get a little concerned w those two.

shouts to garrett temple for having a 230 offensive rating, 98 points higher than jokic

Precious and Gary need to do better or get traded

On the bright side OPJ has been amazing, Flynn is trending up, Gradey starting to look more comfortable and Koloko/Precious hopefully comes back to provide a boost.

its not beyond my expectation. It will get better

It’s a bit off to use a per 100 possessions stat for the bench imo.

Like how many games would it take Malachi to get to 100 possessions? Probably more than 7 lol.

    Except for Otto! 😎

Gradey is doing great things on court too, just depends who is with you on court also

The group as a whole hasn’t been great, but that could be somewhat expected.

The starters are higher IQ vets (and a great young talent in Scottie) so it makes sense they can adapt to a system quicker.

The bench will likely need more time to figure out how to work in the new system. There’s also just Darko learning what types of lineups are going to work, which starters do you want on with which bench guys.

The most disappointing has been McDaniels. He seems, similar to Precious, to be good at fitting into a lineup with starters where he has a set role, but struggles when required to create more in a 2nd unit.

Malachi pulling a Fred impression without the skill in about half of the games also hasn’t helped. Looks much better when he drives and kicks rather than dribbles around forever

I think the og Barnes front court showed a lot of promise and using Barnes rather than Boucher in a lot of those high post spots should be the way going forward ,even when Precious comes back. As well I think more of a sample with one of Precious or Koloko is needed as well, that was supposed to be a position of strength but missing 2 of 3 bigs to start has muddled things

Both Gary and Gradey will eventually start making shots, and their numbers will look a lot better.

as a rookie, gradey has the longest leash with this fanbase lol. it really is like the gordon ramsay meme where he hugs one child saying oh dear sweet princess and calling the other one a fucking donkey lol. i do hope he starts making his shots though.

I’m not doom and gloom about the bench. Gary is going thru his typical cold streak which will pass. Malachi has played more/better in the last 2 games than ever before, Temple hasn’t even played so his numbers are not worth worrying about.

I’m only worried about their backup at big, ironically. Precious has been out awhile and still looks like a “prospect”. Boucher can’t be trusted to make the right play, Koloko has a serious health issue. They need someone to help rebound/set screens as Jak is good, but is too slow and sometimes gets played off the floor

  17. Namorath82

Grady is a bit limp out the gate in his rookie season

  18. superchou

Jalen McDaniels is not good at basketball.

  19. Ylissian

Honestly Flynn has been pretty ok in the past couple games. I think we will see the bench production improve over time. Chemistry must be built.

  20. PriorityPoints

Jalen Mcdaniels has to be trending up soon? I kinda feel like given Boucher’s lack of minutes that the FO may be looking for him to eventually be a replacement there. GTJ + Boucher is just under 30 mil in contracts going out. Maybe a CP3 trade?

Edit: nvm rethought it and thats a stupid deal. Gotta bet on GTJ getting his value back up. Jordan Clarkson might be a good target instead from Utah his contract slides down to ~14m for the next 2 years

Need Trent to warm up, it is 7 games in. He needs to lead the bench.

  22. Darko needs to stop using Flynn, Dick and Trent together. That happens way too often.
