Developing Keyonte George’s voice, 22 turnovers and 240 games rather than game to game

Will Hardy had a really interesting comment about developing Keyonte George’s voice as he develops as the lead ball handler for the Utah Jazz. The Utah Jazz committed 22 turnovers in the loss to the Chicago Bulls and David Locke, radio voice of the Utah Jazz and Jazz NBA Insider takes you through all 22 to see what caused the turnovers.

Finally, Locke discusses the concept of building a team for the next 240 games rather than the quest to win each night

  1. What happened to Will saying the guards was going to be a ā€œHunger Gamesā€? Wouldnā€™t that mean if you have a terrible 7 games in a row (THT) that someone else(george) would have wanted your minutes?

  2. Jazz are the worst team in the NBA. Coaching is suspect with player development. Mike Connelly was so big for the success of last year.

  3. Is Will being told who he needs to play? If not how do you explain starting THT and not benching Clarkson for bad play?

  4. You know what kills me Locke… is that all these jazz fans who keep saying "Luari isn't going to wait to get to the playoffs in a couple years we have to be able to get to the playoffs asap" it's funny to me because His career was falling apart and he was just a role player before joining will hardy and the jazz and now he gets to be a star. I doubt he's thinking man I wish I could go join a playoff team to be the 2nd or 3 rd best player and not get to be a true star…. like he's 26 just starting to maybe enter his prime and im sure he's willing to wait for the team to be built well around him as he puts up big numbers and in 3 years from now he will be 29 and we could be a contender but what's more is the jazz fans drive me crazy and want to win a title but aren't willing to go through the process… what's the point of rushing to become a playoff team what just to become another don and Rudy situation of never being good enough to advance past the 2nd and then what tank again after Luari? Jazz fans drive me crazy with how flip floppy they are and how much the complain especially at coach hardy saying he's not a good enough coach?! Like what?! So let's just keep going through coaches and players and never be great…

  5. The Utah Jazz have always been an organization that adheres to values higher than winning or losing basketball games. Winning games is important. Winning the championship is an important goal. However, over the last 75+ years, the best NBA franchises have built team cultures that support player growth in all aspects of their lives.

Thus, I would argue that the Spurs have been a much better franchise than the Lakers. (Apologies to my fellow Angelenos.) Under Gregg Popovich, the Spurs have not only won five NBA titles, but they have also nurtured the personal growth of some of the best men ever to play the game: Tim Duncan, David Robinson, and Manu Ginobli. All have demonstrated their greatness while remaining humble, always willing to serve the greater good.

By contrast, the Buss family (esp. Dr. Buss) have (at best) tolerated and (at worst) encouraged players in the Laker organization to indulge in self-absorbed and decadent lifestyles. While the Lakers have earned (nearly) the greatest number of championships among all NBA teams, they have created a team culture that celebrates performance by the Almighty Self (e.g., Magic Johnson, Kobe Bryant, Shaquille O'Neal, and LeBron James), dismissing the value of self-sacrifice for the greater good (e.g., Derek Fisher).

As an organization, the Utah Jazz are far better than the Lakers at producing good men. Let's hope that this never changes.

  6. A solution for the Jazz:

    Run this play:

Its a continuous use play called the "Hellenistic Offensive Press Effect"(HOPE)-

At every inbound play the entire team hangs back and advances with the ball handler as a collective mass: shoulder to shoulder, staggered or spread out, it doesn't matter!

Once the entire group has advanced across half court it can choose to bust the middle, flood the gaps or burst out in all directions. The primary ball handler will then have the option to find the open man, drive, transition or regroup. All while catching the other team by surprise; even if they have had time to set up defensively, they will be in a state confusion. Would it work? You'll have to see, if not atleast it will look cool!

Remember, "Hellenistic Offensive Press Effect" or (HOPE), because the other team will be like what the "Hell" and that is what the Jazz need, right now, "HOPE"! TAKE A CHANCE!

  7. Sorry youā€™re right. Itā€™s hard for me to participate after bad losses.

Thanks for the program and your perspective Locke. Go KG. Jazz rule.

  8. W Hardy should have NEVER let Alex Jensen go. He was a lock-down player in college (locking up Mike Bibby, Antawn Jamison, Vince Carter and Scott Padget) and I believe he was defensive player of the year multiple times playing professionally in Turkey and ALSO trained up the 3x DPOY in Rudy Gobert. Alex's presence is invaluable. Sad to see him go.

  9. David David! You are seriously ā€œthe BESTā€. Thank you for always being there for the everydayā€™rs and lifetime Jazz fans no matter how things are going.

  10. Well that doesnā€™t make sense then, if will is on a mindset trust the process or we experimenting y isnā€™t kg starting an y arenā€™t we playing Hendricks if we thinking down the line an y is Kelly olynk getting any minutes his defense is herendous

  11. As someone who also spends too much time listening to disgruntled Jazz fans on reddit and twitter, this show is a breath of fresh air. You always find a way to give logical, real-world reasons for why the team operates the way it does. And know that there are plenty of Jazz fans out here that are disappointed with last night and this season so far, but aren't giving up and aren't ready to throw certain players under the bus.

Thanks for doing what you do, Locke. We really need it.

  12. Good analysis, but just shows that the basketball IQ just isn't there on most of our guards. Good PG have good and FAST IQ to make the right plays, our guys are athletic and always have relied on that athleticism to get to NBA, but they haven't ever really improved their bb IQ.

  13. I think we may be overreacting here. Yes, bad start. But we've played a top 6 hardest schedule so far. Did anyone really look at this first 10 games and think we'd be .500? I sure didn't. The blowouts hurt, but that's kind of a staple of the league now. And… The kings and suns are 12 and 13 right now. Do we really think thats gonna stand? It's just too early to decide the Kazz officially suck. But I do think starting THT has shown to NOT work.

David's right. Don't force KG into a position/responsibility he's not ready for. So start Dunn, let's play some defense and play some pcik-n-roll.
