NBA Exec: Lakers ‘Regretted’ Letting Alex Caruso Leave; Could Trade for Bulls PG

Pipe dream, considering that a lot of teams would be looking to add him during the trade deadline if he becomes available. Would be an insane pick up if we got our sweet prince back.

Imagine if Lakers were somehow able to regain the players who helped win the Bubble like Kuzma + KCP + Caruso and keep the players who got us to the WCF like DLO + Reaves + Rui + Vando with a healthy Lebron + AD šŸ˜«

Either him or Marcus Smart. Those are the 2 guys we absolutely need to make a run at.

Of course, I think Smart is the better option, but both work logistically.

For Caruso, you could trade JHS and maybe Max Lewis if necessary, or god forbid Max Christie. Not 100% sure on the salary situation but I know for a fact that if weā€™re within about 4-5 mil itā€™s good to go. As for if thatā€™s enough Iā€™m not sure. Maybe some 2nds get thrown in (assuming Max Christie isnā€™t) but anything beyond that Iā€™m out.

As for Smart, I think this is the better road. It would require Gabe and JHS salary-wise, and honestly in terms of personnel value Iā€™d do that in a heartbeatā€¦ but Memphis wouldnā€™t. Thatā€™s where picks come in, and Iā€™d undoubtedly be willing to part ways with a protected 1st or a pick swap for Smart. He is literally everything this team needs, heā€™s tough as nails, he fights on defence at an elite level and communicates too, heā€™s got a shaky 3 ball but so does Gabe, and heā€™s a very capable playmaker who can run a unit in conjunction with DLo or Austin. One thing to note is this one has to wait until December 15th due to restrictions with Gabe.

So basically, JHS + picks (and maybe Max Lewis depending on salary stuff) for Caruso, or wait until December and give up Gabe + JHS + draft capital for Smart.

Iā€™d do either one, though Iā€™d definitely prefer getting Smart in terms of talent and overall fit. Also, Smartā€™s locked up for 2 more years after this one, whereas Caruso is only locked in until 2025. By that point itā€™s probably not a big deal but it is worth noting.

    And hereā€™s that exec nowā€¦

    > “The rumor around the Lakers was they regretted letting him go almost immediately after it happened,” the exec said. “They knew that was a mistake.

Omg who couldā€™ve seen this coming besides literally everyone? The saddest thing is that it reportedly only took until *the first practice* with the 2021-22 roster to see Westbrook and the new guys wouldnā€™t fit.

Yeah, I’m pretty sure a lot of teams would like an Alex Caruso.

Letting him go and trading for Westbrook has to be the worst move of all time

A Backcourt of caruso and reaves would be nice

lol bulls FO trying to gas up Caruso’s trade value or just pure speculation by random team employee.

Defense with our lineup of guards is something desperately needed. Side-note, but if Vincent doesnā€™t work out, Iā€™d be interested in Monte Morris.

Y’all hate injuries but want him back

Letting 2021 team go probably is a ring given away right now

If Jeanie had deeper pockets, we could’ve just kept him and THT then traded THT.
