How Ben Simmons is helping and hurting the Nets this season

Ben Simmons has played six games and has some pretty wild stats so far. It makes for a somewhat tough evaluation of his play and what he is bringing to (or subtracting from) the team.

While there are some stats that point to a very high-level contributor, there are others that paint a totally different picture.

It makes for an interesting debate about Ben Simmons play so far, what he means for this squad and how to evaluate his contributions.

  1. His rebounds are gassed to me. he doesnā€™t get rebounds in traffic only ones he the only one standing there kinda a empty stat & its easy to get assist if you have the ball in your hands all game n give the ball to open people he not setting them up.

  2. I blame The coach. He needs to st dow and tell Simmons I expect scoring out of you in addition to what he is already doing

  3. Top 15 in assists & top 15 in rebounds and is Ben good for Brooklyn šŸ˜® y'all are really ridiculous

  4. BS is a guy who has thrived on athleticism and potential enough to fool the NBA into giving him a max contract, but he has never worked to improve the flaws in his game. He's a Net because no one else in the league wanted him and the Nets needed to unload Harden. If you were paying BS a lot less, maybe you could justify him. But at his salary, he is killing a roster compared to what he could be replaced with at a max contract. "Not a total train wreck" was an appropriate quote – unless you factor in the salary. His +/- is third worst on the team "he's getting killed in the minutes he's being played" – what the hell else do you need to know.

  5. I like what I'm seeing from Ben Simmons. He must continue to be aggressive more so while many of our stars are D league and benched.

  6. i think a lot of people over rate cameron johnson he mediocre if u expecting more from him prolly will be disappointed

  7. One thing every fan should agree on is Ben needs to take advantage of his size when he gets a small guard switched on to him. Heā€™s missing out on 4-8ppg. because he doesnā€™t fight for position in the post on these dudes heā€™s got 6ā€+ on.

  8. 16ppg. is 4 points per quarter. I donā€™t see how a man thatā€™s 6ā€™10ā€ with his speed and vertical canā€™t get 4 points in 6-8minutes a quarter.

  9. Simmons takes up too much cap space for what he brings. Period. Any talented guard could do what he does, push the ball (and even score a few points) at a lower pay rate and maybe we could get another big up front. Our conference has big guys. Playing this switch all the time small ball drives me crazy. We may now have enough scoring that doing this might win us a round or two in the playoffs.

  10. Iā€™ve been his biggest fan, and there is so much he does at an elite level. Passing, screening, rebounding, defence all great. But you clearly see when he doesnā€™t go to the basket, shoot, or be aggressive it makes it a lot harder for his team mates. Even against bucks there as a point he was driving against Dame and kicked it out to Dor instead of dunking on dames head. When he is aggressive itā€™s a different story. Something happened to him before the Atlanta series a few years back and he got the yips big time. His free throws were getting better and then just dropped off the planet bad. When he shoots a free throw he looks like embarrassed and wants it over. Iā€™ve never understood why he canā€™t just concentrate more and take his time. When you see giannis or clax shoot, they are bad, but they look like they are trying beyond belief. Simmons looks like he doesnā€™t give a shit. And the other thing I noticed in big situations he shrinks completely. His paint game used to be elite and now it is awful, just throws up weird lazy one handed shots instead of taking his time. Just seems so low in confidence and it doesnā€™t feel like he is putting in the care and effort to improve. The first step is to just try and look like you care. You canā€™t improve by taking 3 shots a game!!

  11. Ben Simmons is not good for Brooklyn he is good for Cam Thomas. His ZERO sum offense and injuries is the reason why Cam Thomas is getting the kind of opportunities he is getting. Its cause and effect.

  12. The starting unit from last season had cohesion but the bench unit or the players that Vaughn chose to play were mostly ineffective. Ben, Thomas, Lonnie, Oneal and DSJ off the bench would change this teams trajectory. Bridges would get back to form because the lob threat that Claxton presents when he's operating around the free throw line helps his game.

  13. In 6 games, Ben Simmons is 1-4 from the free throw line. In contrast Cam Thomas is 38-45, Bridges is 27-30, Lonnie is 14-19, Dayron is 7-14, and rounding out the top 5 Spencer is 3-7. Theres no amount of spin to justify 4 attempts for Ben. Trading Claxton will not solve Ben Simmons lack of aggression.

  14. I hate watching Ben on the court. He doesnā€™t crash the boards. As soon as he gets half court, heā€™s looking to pass it. He moves away from the ball after he passes it. Why are you sitting out on the perimeter when you donā€™t shoot 3s? He gathers a huge amount of rebounds and assists and no points. So disrespectful to the game of basketball. He plays an old school 1 guard. Pass and get out of the way.

  15. As a SIXER when will yall wake up? He is TRASH because you always end up playing 4 on 5.He is a liability. If you wanna run and play no half court then he is fine. But when its big boy time when its half court show me what you got time he is a no show because he WILL not look to score the ball.Goin on 7rs plus and he is what he is.TRASH! Thats why he looks good in pick up games in the summer because there is no half court play or pressure.Somebody find me one video of Bum Simmons playing 1 on 1 against anyone in the offseason.Im a SIXER and trust me I researched BUM SIMMONS like crazy hoping he would develop an offensive package and its not in him to do it.Good riddance and good luck NETS.
