Morey can leverage the cap outlook to his advantage vs Masai. [He] can effectively say: “You can trade us either Anunoby or Siakam ahead of the deadline and ensure a return for them, or you can stand pat, we’ll sign them in free agency and you’ll lose them for nothing. Your choice!”

I believe this is what they call “playing hardballs”

Morey has the trade market by the balls because we have tradable players, expiring contracts, and assets

  3. HoagieTwoFace

Masai is a moron he rather let them go for nothing

Not really, because the Raptors can just trade them to another team which needs their bird rights and the Sixers would have to compete with that offer.

I think Toronto is kind of a red herring trade partner, because we’re probably not going to be willing to match other high offers for two players we could potentially sign outright. I think the Raptors will only come into play if we go into FA with cap space and Toronto doesn’t trade OG. In which case we’d either sign OG, or force Toronto to overpay him.

Am I the only one who has zero interest in Siakam? He seems like a very shaky fit with Embiid

Edit: seems like nobody wants him for what his price will be lol

Um, you know there are other teams in the league also, right? Another team might offer more than Morey would.

I don’t think masai cares he legit would cut his nose to spite his face

  8. throwawayjoeyboots

It doesn’t work like that lol

  9. This seems like a shaky analysis to me. Other teams can also trade for these guys. It’s not like Masai’s only options are trading them to the Sixers or losing them to the Sixers in free agency.

Can’t wait for all the Siakam talk to stop. OG’s the better fit. We want him.

We finally have a tradeable 1st and start acting like it’s the only one in the league that’s for sale

  12. _monsters_

What happens next year if we trade for OG this year? Afraid of a Tobi 2.0

  13. rand-san

except Masai is a dumbass. he has proven that time and time again

Masai is a bad to terrible GM. Instant reaction is to say he’s not because of the chip, but almost every other decision he’s made has been uniformly terrible. The kawhi move just happened to work out. If they don’t win a title they’re left with nothing for mortgaging everything on one player who didn’t want to be there.

That being said, I would expect Masai to just not do anything rather than something.

  15. pickledelbow

Am I the only one who actually doesn’t want either of these guys?

  16. RockNJocks

Option 3 would be to trade them elsewhere.

  17. Healthy-Plastic-435

Masai let FVV leave for nothing when the Raptors were a 9 seed. He also gave up a 1st for thad young and a 1st for jacob Ptoel . He turned down maxey, thybulle, and Danny green for kyle Lowry’s expiring just to sign and trade him for precious achiwa. What I’m trying to say is logic doesn’t apply to Masai

Siakam is a Horford-level trap. Just not what this team needs.

  19. OuchMyBacky

Everyone slow your horses down. We are 6-1 and not even 1/8 through the season. Need to let things play out meaning let other teams fail , opposing players become disgruntled / want out , etc.

We can’t make a trade until after 12/31 with the 4 guys we just acquired

  20. corya45

og on this team would be INSANE. maxey melton og tobias embiid starting would be one of the best defensive teams in the league with pat bev batum reed cov off the bench!?!?

  21. shotokhan1992-

Siakam just doesn’t seem like a good fit here to me. OG would be a perfect fit rn, but if sixers end up giving him a max in FA, that might be Tobias all over again

  22. AustinDKrell

Think that leverage, coupled with benefits of acquiring the Bird rights of whichever wing you prefer ahead of their free agencies, should be half the case for targeting one of those guys.

  23. eaglesphan1

I don’t want either of these dudes

  24. I’m not interested in Siakam. I like OG but I worry his contract is going to be and overpay alla Tobias (although I like Tobi)
