How we feeling about Dick so far this season?

Overall impressions so far? Any surprises? See him cracking the rotation? What does he need to improve on?

He needs to hit his shots. He is not hitting enough shots.

I mean, let’s be honest, he’s been abysmal so far.

He’s averaging 3 PPG on 27% FG and 36% TS, while being a minus defender.

Not saying anything about what he will be in the future, but to answer OP’s question, he’s been terrible thus far.

Wasn’t high on him when we drafted him. I’ve seen flashes of what his game can potentially be in the League. If he maxes out his potential he can be a slightly more athletic Kyle Korver. I think we should send him to the G League to develop & get more acclimated to the speed of the League

He gets lost on offense. When the ball goes through him and he doesn’t have a quick shot, he doesn’t know where to go next. So far it’s “he’s been nothing, not good, not bad”. He’s doesn’t have a lot of impact on this team, which is ok for now. But hopefully by mid season we can get a few ppg from him consistently.

Once the shot starts feeling and he feels more comfortable out there, he’ll be a really good player. He has a great skillset but can’t defend very well, or bring anything additive to a lineup until he starts making threes, and he will.

I didn’t expect him to be lights out right away, he’s got the ability to get there and it takes time

He’ll develop his shots to hit more consistently eventually, not expecting much this first year

Taking too long to make a decision on offense. Needs to just let it fly if hes open. Hes making rookie mistakes as expected.

Liked the pick, still do but I will say I expected slightly less growing pains as part of the rotation

Yes the shots haven’t fallen and that’s unfortunate but i’m certain they’ll start to drop and all the other things, namely decisionmaking (people forget Dick was the one who dished out that pass to Scottie on the perimeter) and his hustle are good signs – plus we might go trial by fire depending on what direction this team goes and depending on if we keep or trade Gary Trent Jr.

Defense is an issue but he’s a rookie and he did a good job of not fouling out in the clutch when he was closing

He has a good feel for the game but, he’s getting the Matt Thomas treatment where teams know he isn’t a threat off the dribble so they run him off the 3pt line hard. He just needs to adjust to the speed of the league and he’ll be solid.

I like his game and think he has some potential to be a useful rotation player. 8 games in, the main negative I see on the offensive end is how frantic he plays. He needs to slow it down and let the game come to him.

I’m impressed by how well he rebounds and moves off ball

    Fucking fantastic.

Been fun to watch, and all the puns are hilarious. Great effort. Good signing for what is going to be a throwaway development year.

Worst case, he’s actually tradable for assets in a couple of seasons vs malachi.

There’s a reason he fell to 13 he is one dimensional and when the shots not falling he doesn’t do anything else we’ll enough to impact the game at this stage. Hoping he can put it together and Masai and co. have a pretty good track record for evaluating talent. But I’m not gonna lie it will hurt if some of the other players, that we passed on start to ball out and turn out to have a better career then him. Because we really need to be hitting on the few lottery picks we have.

  13. jjkiller26

He just needs his jumper to start falling. His defense hasnt been that awful, he’s been in the right position and has shown flashes on offense moving the ball and making the right passes. Just gotta hit those threes really if he wants to keep getting minutes

  14. blazewarrior32

would have prefered bufkin players that can only shoot never do well

  15. Ssstanimal

He’s a rookie. I have no expectations, he’s getting overwhelmed by the pace, but will get better over time.

  16. certainkindoffool

He does the things that matter. Eventually his shot will fall, he will acclimatize to the nba, and will put on some weight.

  17. n3moh0es

looks solid just raw right now. love his size with the shooting, pause

  18. Kevita24

    He’s 19…

He will improve, he was one of the youngest players in this year’s draft, it’s going to take him time to grow and evolve, be patient…there will be ups and downs but in 2-3 seasons I think he’s going to be a monster

  19. OguguasVeryOwn

I like Gradey, I think he was fearless to start but is getting in his head a little lately. His defense has been bad and will probably be a limiting factor for him in terms of how much run he gets.

Probably need 3 more years to really know what we have in him.

  20. PhileinS

hes way better on the auxilary skills than i anticipated and dont want to sound like a doomer but am starting to get a TINY bit worried about the shot not falling. Clearly has good form and a known shooter so I imagine he will put it together as the season rolls on (or maybe by next year).

Overall I thought he was drafted for fit but am pleasantly surprised to see he doesnt project to be a 1 dimensional player

  21. I was hoping he’d be a Keegan murray 2.0 but not yet

  22. Raptors887

I think he needs game time with the 905 tbh.

  23. DiggWuzBetter

Significant upside, but isn’t ready for real NBA minutes. He should spend the year with the 905, needs game reps to adjust to the speed and athleticism of the pro game at both ends of the court.

  24. Training-Site-7019

He hasn’t been good shooting wise but you definitely see the flashes and potential. He’s a smart player he moves the ball well and I think he’s a bit of an underrated passer. He just needs his shots to start falling and it’ll continue to open up his game. Keep in mind he’s a skinny 19 year old kid. I think in 2 years he’ll really start to become a good rotation player

  25. ebrian78

Can we talk about the guy many people thought we’d take? Kobe Bufkin has played in 2 NBA games and has spent most of his time in the G-League.

Holding that up against what Dick has done so far … I’d say we came out pretty good!

  26. Suspicious-Nature304

If we were in a similar situation as dallas where their rookie gets put in a position with little to no competition he would surely bloom the same, but as of right now dick is still the equivalent of a flowerbud in the winter.

  27. Entire-Ad-5718

Nerves are killing him. Once over that he will shine.

  28. SlapThatAce

At the moment he doesn’t look all that great, but he will eventually develop into an avg shooter and that all that the Raps need.

  29. motherseffinjones

He’s a rookie and needs to play for the game to slow down for him. He is probably gonna hurt the team for a season or 2 but the way we shoot his skill set is sorely needed.

  30. Recent-Curve7616

Looks completely lost tbh. The speed and physical play is definitely hurting him. His bad shooting is a massive disappointment tho, even just standing in a corner and taking open shots should be a calling card for him
