Anybody posted this already? +/- when off the court.

(hint: the best players are at the bottom of the list 😉

I’m guessing this means JT has the most value that our team is at negative when he sits on the bench and contrasts to JB?

God damn it’s suprising to know JB has the most negative impact… BEATING PP & KORNET OF ALL PEOPLE….

Edit: I didn’t see the hint

The game is just different when Tatum is out there. He commands so much attention, it isn’t surprising that things gum up when defenses can focus their attention elsewhere. Sometimes JT just stands in the corner because they know 1.5 guys are shifting towards him. Opens things up everywhere else

Context matters but its pretty interesting that 4/5 of our starters are the best 4 on this list

This is why he’s the MVP. Celtics went from an 18 point lead to 9 with him off the court. 2.5 minutes back on the court and lead was back to 18

  5. This needs to be posted every time someone says we’re still a top 3 team in the East without him

  6. His basic stats are comparable to last year, but it just feels different this year, he’s that true superstar now that everything in the game bends to his gravity.

This is one game plus minus, in other words, it don’t mean shit

Can someone dumb this down? I don’t get this stat. Basically, Tatum is the only player who is a net positive? Weird stat…

  9. During the end of Q3 last night, JB, White and bench closed out the last ~2:30 or so. I told my gf that the lead was probably gonna go from 14 to 8 by the end of the quarter.

We ended up going into Q4 with a 9-point lead. JT and Holiday came back in and extended the lead back to 16 almost as fast as they had lost it.

I mentioned in the GT that I’d like to see Joe have Jrue out there with JB during the bench minutes and let White run with JT. I think Jrue would keep that unit more composed rather than letting JB try to do it all on his own.

The lineups are dogshit when JB is left alone with the scrubs. Macaulay general sits JT at the 6:30 mark of the first quarter(which is odd) and JB is left with hauser, korndawg, d-white, and scrub X. Going against the other team’s starters vs. that lineup is asking for trouble. JT comes in and cooks against the other team’s second units.

At the end of the day Tatum is still the team, simple as that

Our starters in general are just stupid good. The bench gotta pick it up. Sometimes I feel for JT he deserves to have a good backup especially as the best player.

JB is playing the most minutes without JT, and if he is off the court JT is almost always on. Frankly, the team’s complete inability to produce with Tatum on the bench should be a big red flag for Jaylen.

  14. Obviously, it’s still a very small sample size, but the interesting thing to me is looking at how each of the starters seems to affect each end. Our offense without KP, Jrue, or DWhite is a little bit worse but not bad. Without JB, it’s about the same and without Tatum it drops off a cliff. On defense, we are a little better without JB. KP is about the same. White has a noticeable impact. Jrue is even more, but again it drops off cliff without Tatum.

Some people are reading this as JB is a negative impact, I’m reading it as the team still does fairly well with him on the bench. That not necessarily a bad thing, we saw Memphis play surprisingly better when Ja was out last year, but we all know he is the MVP of that team

Tatum has one of the highest +/- in the NBA.

In fact, amongst the stars, he’s very near the top

The numbers without Tatum have been so brutal. I do think there are lineups that will work without Tatum and the offensive process especially hasn’t been as bad as the numbers. They’ve only played 13 minutes without Tatum and with both Holiday/White + Brown and they have at least scored very well in those minutes, [although it’s still negative overall at this early stage](https://www.pbpstats.com/wowy-combos/nba?TeamId=1610612738&Season=2023-24&SeasonType=Regular%2BSeason&PlayerIds=1628369,1628401,201950,1627759)

I also think they’ve caught a little bit of bad luck. I was watching for it last night, Hauser [bricked two wide](https://www.nba.com/stats/events?CFID=&CFPARAMS=&GameEventID=78&GameID=0022300010&Season=2023-24&flag=1&title=MISS%20Hauser%2024%27%203PT%20Jump%20Shot) open corner 3s off [of ball movement](https://www.nba.com/stats/events?CFID=&CFPARAMS=&GameEventID=120&GameID=0022300010&Season=2023-24&flag=1&title=MISS%20Hauser%2024%27%203PT%20Jump%20Shot) while Tatum was on the bench in the first quarter. Then, Tatum checks in, Pritchard misses a transition 3, but the ball bounces right back to him and he bangs a [3 from the same corner](https://www.nba.com/stats/events?CFID=&CFPARAMS=&GameEventID=158&GameID=0022300010&Season=2023-24&flag=1&title=Pritchard%2024%27%203PT%20Jump%20Shot%20(6%20PTS))

I have been wondering if they should consider playing Tatum most of the 1st/3rd quarters to mirror other teams stars. Some of the runs other teams have gone on have come when players like Edwards/Embiid/Bridges have been out there and Tatum has not. But maybe the competitive advantage is larger having Tatum smash the other team’s bench
