yeah randolph had as much hype for a young warriors player pre curry, klay, draymond dynasty era that i can ever remember probably dating back to webber … maybe have to go back to the end of arenas’ second season in 2002/03 being right there in terms of excitement for a warriors young talent
i thought he could be at the very least another odom, a big length lefty who can handle the ball and fill up that stat sheet … and i also believed he could’ve even been better if he reached whatever his ceiling was
at the end of randolph’s rookie season he averaged a double double his last 12 games that year in the spring 2009
13.5 pts 10.5 reb 1.7 ast 1.4 stl 1.6 blk while shooting 47% FG and 75% FT in 32 minutes per game
the sky looked like the limit for randolph and he even was invited to team USA mini camp as a 19 year old which made him by far one of the youngest players ever to be invited to practice with team USA during that era so it’s not like warriors fans were the only ones excited about randolph as even those who ran team USA basketball thought he had a ton of promise and potential as a young player in the NBA after just one season
in his second year in 2009/10 he was performing relatively okay for a 20 year old averaging
11.6 pts 6.5 reb 1.3 ast 0.8 stl 1.5 blk in 23 minutes during the first 33 games
but he got hurt around half way thru the season and missed the last 3+ months and then was traded after the season and the rest was history as randolph just never looked or played like the same player he was his first 1.5 seasons in the NBA … now knows if it was due to injuries and or if he stayed healthy and remained on the warriors what his career could’ve looked like
but as mentioned had he lived up to his potential whatever it may have been who knows what warriors history would’ve been over the last dozen or so years as would the trio of curry, klay, draymond ever come to fruition and been allowed to develop and turn this warriors franchise into one of the greatest dynasties in NBA history if the team decided to build the team around randolph like many fans wanted them to do early on

During the dark ages, us Warrior fans lived on hope. I don’t blame you man. I thought Troy Murphy was going to revolutionize the game.

You weren’t the only one. I thought SL success = big league success was coming.
