I think those dirty jabs from Gobert ruined his position. If he took the high ground and said he was just trying to be a peacemaker then Green would look worse. But Gobert took the opportunity to punch down, which always looks bad.
Then he tried to add a narrative by saying Green was looking for any opportunity to hurt him like what. He ran with his victim card and never looked back.
