Most of the teams who make deep playoff runs are teams who have spent a lot of time playing together to become a cohesive unit. A lot of fans in this sub just don’t understand how good NBA players are —*even the “average” ones*— and a group of “*okay*” players can beat a group of all-stars if those all-stars don’t have cohesion. Case in point: Basically-Everybody vs Harden’s-Clippers. On paper, the Clippers should have put the stank on the Grizzlies and it shouldn’t have even been close. But because the Grizzlies have just a little bit more cohesion, that was enough to beat an otherwise more talented team.
The Grizzlies will be at a disadvantage the entire seasons because every five games it’s basically been a new roster having to get to know one another. It’s like a bunch of guys playing a pickup game against a team who has been playing together for a while. The Clippers are the anomaly; everyone else who is in playoff contention has been together for a good while. Even teams who’ve made key additions have left their core figures intact. By contrast, the Grizzlies made a host of changes that just need time to develop cohesion and this is exacerbated by the fact that Ja can’t even engage with the team for the duration of his suspension (*unlike players who are hurt but can still be involved*).
In a little over a month, we’ll be looking at a different team. As players cycle off of the injured list, the team will be forced to get used to one another again. Most people are joking about tanking but it’s not the worst idea given what we **know** of how the season will progress. At the rate we’re losing, we would have to have an absolutely stellar record after Ja returns just to make the play-in.
Alex Sarr (*or Zach Edey a little later in the 1st round*) would fix **a LOT** of issues in our front court…

The problem is they will keep falling behind. At this rate, they will be 5-20 once Ja gets back so they will need to go 36-21 just to get to .500 by the end of the season.

yeah fuck a tank I wanna see Ja put the team on his back and get us through the play in

You don’t see the bigger picture.
