5:35 your Mathurin take is pretty off base. Other than Tyrese, Mathurin is the most important player for the Pacers future. Saying his ceiling is a 6th man/scorer and that's it… that's fair if you're not plugged in to the Pacers. So I'll help you out. Benn as a 20 year old showed that he can already score with ease. 17ppg in 28mpg as a rookie. This year, Rick is challenging him to improve his playmaking and defense as his first priority. That's tough for a second year player but he's doing it. His assists are up almost double and he's playing better defense, including getting the game winning steal off Giannis last night.
The last 2 games are a glimpse into the potential Mathurin has. 26/11/2/1/1 on 50% and 22/9/4/2/0 on 50%. 7/14 from 3 including some really nice step backs. Mathurin at his peak can be a player who scores with ease, passes, defends and shoots the 3.
Mathurin has the mentality to be a great player. He isn't the braindead type of guy who just wants to score and be one dimensional. He wants to be the best player in the league. And Coach Rick is the perfect coach for him. He's hard on Mathurin. I don't think any other lotto pick from last year is getting coached as hard as Benn. And Coach Rick has recognized his progress. He said the last 3 games have been his best of his career, and rewarded him with 74 minutes over the past 2 games.
Just letting you know, its not too late to get on the bandwagon. The 6th man takes and start Buddy takes are going to look pretty dumb sometime very soon. Benn is the key to this team doing anything other than being "fun".
