Can we just appreciate this team, they don’t quit like previous Quin Snyder led teams. Tough loss tho

Lauri is Dirk/KD-lite but KD is fucking KD lmao

Crazy finish. Bummer it didn’t go our way. Lauri is a beast. Sexton and THT kept us alive and deserve all the praise this game. Tough loss, tough finish, great game.

GAME NOTES:
First **sunday** Jazz home game since 2001. 22 years!
These two games have been way more competitive than I could’ve ever thought. Looking purely man v man the Suns kill us, so this weekend series has been a lot of fun to watch.
Starting off we have Lauri Markkanen. My goodness, what a bucket. 15-26 tonight, 2-9 from 3, 6-9 from the line for 38 points in 49 minutes tonight. 17 rebounds, 7 offensive, 2 steals and 2 blocks (one of them was absurd on Eubanks). He was looking for a shot all game, and hit the game tying layup for us with about 10 seconds left in regulation. He had more FGA at halftime than he did all of last game which is great to see. But let that statline sink in. 36 points. 17 rebounds. 49 minutes for our allstar.
The last possession of double OT was an OOB playcall for Lauri to get a corner 3 over KD with .9 seconds left. Keyonte George inbounded the ball to Lauri, he turned and shot the 3, but was fouled by KD as time expired. Lauri is the only person to get that shot up over KD, credit to him for even getting it off. Phoenix challenged it, and won it. The refs said that it was a legal basketball move because KD hit the ball first, but it looked suspicious. Regardless, props to Lauri for even getting the ball out. It was a 5 minute review, and apparently enough evidence to overturn it. Personally, I thought there wasn’t enough evidence, KD had his hand on Lauri’s hip, and the arm he contested with hit ball, then Lauri’s fingers. Also landed in Lauri’s landing space, but I’m no NBA official.
The second best player tonight was THT, and we all know my thoughts on THT. I want him off the team. But he was just what we needed off the bench. He was doing it all, and taking care of the ball. 9-18 from the field, 4-10 from 3 (excellent!) and 3-3 from the line for 25 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals, and just 1 turnover! All of this in 29 minutes tonight. He looked like a brand new player tonight. While he still attempted some very questionable shots, it was hard to get mad at him tonight.
John Collins was a beast tonight on both ends. He looked great defensively, even though he only had 2 steals and 1 block. It felt like he was everywhere tonight, guarding everybody, and disrupting shots. He was also huge on the glass with 11 rebounds. Offensively, he’s seen better days, going 5-13 and 3-5 from the 3, including a huge game-tying 3 with a minute left in double OT. He played 43 minutes tonight, mainly at center which I enjoy. I love the versatility he brings to our rotation. 15 points, 11 rebounds for him.
Collin Sexton also had himself a good game, highlighted with a game tying buzzer beater putback. He timed that putback incredibly well! 6-13, 3-6 from 3, 18 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal. 2 turnovers in 23 minutes tonight. I’m not a fan of playing both THT & Sexton together, but it was working at times tonight. I think he does best when he plays next to Keyonte (shocker). He definitely plays better when he is the only one on the floor out of Clarkson/Sexton/THT.
Keyonte George didn’t have a good night tonight. 2-12 shooting, 0-5 from 3, and 3-4 from the line. He did have 7 points, 10 assists, 5 rebounds tonight, but 5 turnovers. He’s still growing as a player, but the way he has been playing has been generally really good. His potential is through the roof. His shot is going to come back around, but it’s so encouraging to see him be so willing to move the ball around. He had a huge dunk in the second quarter that was electric. I’m very surprised the end of OT play was for him to take it inside, and although he missed I am a big fan of a rebuilding team giving their young guys those opportunities.
Jordan Clarkson didn’t have a good game either. 8-23 shooting, 1-6 from 3, 5-7 from the line. 22 points on 23 shots isn’t a good look, and we’ve seen it a lot of times this season so far. He just isn’t hitting his creative shots like he was last year. He is being a bit too inconsistent for me, and I wonder if it’s just a funk or if he has regressed. He had 7 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 steals, and 2 turnovers in 39 minutes. He did have a big assist to John Collins for a wide open 3, which shows the development on his vision.
Olynyk looked terrible tonight. 6 points, 1-4 shooting, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, 4 turnovers, and he fouled out in just 20 minutes tonight. Probably the worst game we’ve seen from him in a Jazz uni.
Agbaji is frustrating for me. I am losing hope watching him. He is just out there existing. It doesn’t feel like he is making much of a difference on defense, and offensively he was 1-1 for 3 points. He does a good job not fouling, which is great for a sophomore perimeter defender, but I need more from him for me to want him to be a piece of our future going forward. I will say I love his hustle, dude doesn’t quit. Transition D, or just on swaps, he doesn’t give up easy looks when it is easy to let the opponent get a fastbreak bucket.
No Kris Dunn tonight, DNP CD. It’s shocking to me that he wasn’t given an opportunity tonight. We had solid guard play (outside of Clarkson), so it makes sense he sat, but I want more minutes for him.
Defensively, we disrupted KD a lot better tonight than we did last game. We were blitzing him in the post, forcing him to make a tough cross court pass and we had rotations quick enough to not get burnt often on them. We still did get hurt on some Eric Gordon 3’s, and Devin Booker made some plays, but we made life harder for KD, especially compared to last game. We did that same blitzing defense on Booker, but Booker has grown into a great playmaker so we got burned a lot more on his possesions.
Absolute gritty game, regardless of the result. We got the stop we needed in double OT, but couldn’t secure the rebound to give us a shot to win. Such a heartbreaker, but a fun game full of clutch moments.
4-9 on the season.
DJW1981
This was a complete bullshit call. Reffing in the NBA will continue to be a joke.
SomePoorGamer
Game was lost on the John Collins missed dunk. This one stings. I wish they would let Lauri shot free throws just for the entertainment value.
Andrewski18
Switch the names on their jerseys and that call would have stood. Ugh.
0xVex
Even besides the hand contact I feel Lauri wasn’t given landing space and should have been awarded the foul. Love the energy we have seen the last two games though.
16patterjo
The only good call that lady ref makes tonight gets overturned lmao
dpb200
On the bright side I didn’t have to have a heart attack waiting to see if Lauri made all 3 in a row to tie even if we got snubbed lol
shamboi
Riddle me this…if the roles were reversed you think the NBA would overturn that foul? Hell no, they would give KD the opportunity to tie it up on the line 100% of the time. Fuck the NBA man

Refs wanted to go home tonight

Tough ending but one of the craziest games the Jazz have played in a long time. This team is 100% better than their record right now. They beat a lot of teams playing the way they have the last two nights.
beastfromthefarweast
This game was weirdly officiated. Suns got away with everything in the first half, then the Jazz got away with aggressive play second half, then OT, second OT, and it ended with this nonsense.
Great game overall though! Key, Lauri, Walker, and Ochai are a special group. Add a fully-acclimated Hendricks and we have an incredible defensive frontcourt and balanced backcourt. Collins (+/- Clarkson, THT, and Sexton), Sensabaugh, and whoever we get in trades will be a formidable team in coming years.
PrecisionAcc
These 2 games clearly show ain’t no way this Suns team can win a chip
FERFreak731
4-9. I’d rather tank. I don’t think this team makes the play in, and I’d rather not throw a tantrum having to give our top 10 protected pick to OKC, with the pick being after 10, but in the lottery. Get Isaiah, or Ron, and have another future star to pair with future star Keyonte, and maybe future star, because he has high potential with Taylor.
ovirto
KD with the game winning foul.
Chibbly
Might be the game that breaks the jazz morale. Two very tough losses in a row and at home.
mrcolty5
If KD were taking that last shot they’d have called a flagrant for someone jumping into his landing space, god forbid Lauri gets that same call
rc_cola34
I don’t understand how I watch lauri get fouled 3 separate ways and it’s deemed legal….
Doesn’t let him land, gets a piece of his hand and has a hand on the chest.
On top of all that Zarba steps over the other officials call
Seriously confused how you come up with that outcome. Fans deserve better.
Supposed to be conclusive evidence…zero reason it doesn’t stand as called.
BuddhistMonk72
So many bad calls the whole way, and they found a way to get the worst one last
lopodo777
KD is KD, We are improving our defence and we had grit and grind, thats all I want from my team (winning is a plus)

Hard to convince me that if the roles were reversed on that last call that it would go the same way.
KD would go to the line. Lauri…?
Thamor81
Well Durant went fully negative for me in this game not because of that last defensive play (Refs fucked that up) not Durant. BUT for the fucking bs whining he was doing to the refs 24/7 and they let him do that all game long. Otherwise best game of the season for our Jazz team. Hopefully this tight loss fires them up for future games as they need a spark to fire them up if they truly think they can make this team go to playoffs.
dpb200
I really think this team is better than the record shows, most of our losses have been close and to good teams. A few changeups in the roster and a year of development for some of our guys and we’ll be a legit playoff team
JaedenRohde
Why do we seem to be more angry about the result than the players?

Jazz fans I don’t wanna jinx it but this team is too good to throw the season away. If they bring this competitiveness every night they will see a lot of wins
