Jaylen Brown dominates as Boston Celtics hold off Giannis Antetokounmpo, Milwaukee Bucks

The Celtics showed a lot more fire and played a lot better basketball against the Milwaukee Bucks … for about 42 minutes … then it was a little messy. They still held on to win, and it was because Jaylen Brown was the best player on the floor. John Karalis of Boston Sports Journal discusses this amazing game from Brown and why this is the standard he should be held to. Plus, some of the other great performances, including the Brown/Kristaps Porzingis connection, and the recipe for avoiding disaster like the last six minutes of this game.

  1. 23 shots for 24 points (not counting the heave at the buzzer when the game was decided). Hard to say the Boston defense doesn't have an answer for Dame.

  2. Briwn got his money now work rest of game. To much time doing fashion this summer not enough work on handle.

  3. JB still is not given the respect he deserves Tatum is favored by most and does less on a regular basis they are both vital to our success but he is the villain for the wrong reasons. JT is completely selfish and receives praise JB will be drug across the coals for the same reason yet 1a and 1b

  4. Your right John. JB was looking to make the right play instead of his own shot which I have been concerned about. His decision making was excellent and it was great to see in this game. Is this a light 💡 moment for JB or is it just for one game. Did he turn the page for the season? Is this the new JB?

  5. This is one of the few instances where I’m not really harping too much on the late game execution. We all knew Dame was gonna be Dame at some point. That was just a storm that they had to weather. And 90 percent of the teams in this league wouldn’t have been able to survive Dame Time. But we did. So I’m not stuck on that too much. Sometimes it’s not about how the C’s play, it’s about the other team’s good players making shots. I thought for the whole game, we were clearly the better team.

  6. I think going w/o KP was PART of why they struggled late. I'm with you–no understanding why that happened.

  7. There’s a difference between sports journalism and sports social media discourse. Every credible and serious analysts knows the difference between hating and criticism but social media discourse and the actors in it want to obfuscate the difference between the two because of their narratives (or they simply lack crirical thinking skills.)

The fact that JB can play like this is the exact reason why we should criticise him when he doesn’t play like this. There is a blueprint for him to be successful in this team. He just needs to be consistently playing based on it.

  8. What a bad 4th quarter yet again… I hope they can figure it out. Also, I really really really hope Jaylen Brown can be more consistent than what he’s shown this year.

  9. To be clear in jaylen slander comment – John there is a difference between criticizing someone based on their capabilities like you do and what you see a lot of fans doing. Comments like “this is why he’s gonna be on the trade market” or saying jaylen is this bjg problem are why people like me are quick to defend him and are tired of the slanderous comments like that. It’s different. Criticism is fair, but taking it to the next step is redic.

  10. I like JB but he is inconsistent as much as he given his props he and others should be let known when there not pulling their weight all professional athletes should remember this is a Game not a job.

  11. It's about playing efficiently
Brown was great bc of his 8 assists and just 1 turnover
This is how he has to, play
He should only drive with his good hand and look to pass the other

So far Porzingis is the 2nd best player

  12. Listen to John for a long time now and I know when he hates a player lol jb is not one of them but theirs definitely some broadcaster’s that definitely don’t like him tho

  13. I feel like anytime I criticize JB people just automatically attack. I don’t hate JB I just expect him to play like he did tonight a lot more often.

  14. That alley oop to Sam Hauser showed me that JB and JT learned from Butler in last years Miami series, they’re trusting their teammates more. Called the defenders bluff and made them pay for it!!

  15. If Jaylen plays like this for the rest of the season it's lights out for the rest of the league. Also, Horford was huge in this one.

  16. Really like seeing JB developing a nice chemistry with KP. Having another scorer who isn’t another wing, that he actually passes to, seems to really open up way more scoring chances for both, but especially for JB. Instead of forcing up a dumb shot, driving into traffic or trying to dribble (which generally ends in a turnover) he makes the extra pass and ends up with a better shot if he gets the ball back. JB let the game come to him tonight as opposed to trying to force things. None of the “oh it’s my turn to take the ball and do MY thing”, which like I said, leaves him open for better shots. Look at his efficiency tonight. THAT is the key. If he can play like he did tonight then the team will be just fine… assuming they improve that bench.
I will say I am not a fan of the 7-8 man rotation in freaking November. THAT is unacceptable. They should be playing 9 deep and preparing for an 8-9 man rotation for the playoffs. Not having a third big to spell Al or KP is DANGEROUS! This team is for real but they HAVE to improve the bench if they’re going to make a real run for the championship. Kornet, Houser and Pritchard are not enough. Houser might be able to maintain his role if he keeps his shooting up but they gotta get a third guard and third big.

    Back to you, John…

  17. Why does JB and KP live in the same building? JB been here for 7 years, just got a 300 million contract and doesn't own a house in MA?

  18. John great show as always, quick question tho, why have there never been a Locked on Celtics x Garden Report crossover show? Ithnk you and Zannis would be magical on the same pod

  19. i feel when they try run the clock down is when it goes badly they need to just as you say do what was working

  20. Jaylen Brown is a top 5 transition player in the sport yet Derrick White seems to always be leading the break. I'd like for the Celtics to look for Brown in transition as opposed to White.

  21. Your pod is the first that I search for after every Boston game but especially after a win. You analyze the team intelligently from a player's prism and always respond to your listeners. Please continue the good work, your fan in New Zealand 😊

  22. Jaylen been balling but all this criticism of him is crazy! The Celtics players are still learning to play wt each other and there has to be a balance! Jaylen great when he’s attacking the rim but when he goes iso to much he’s turning the ball over same wt Tatum when he’s not attacking he’s jacking up a barrage of missed 3, and Porzingus is still playing to much outside the paint not dominate wt his height in the paint but as long they play within the offense and move the ball, I expect great things this year, but Celtics could use another big but great win Let’s Go Celtics 🍀🍀🍀🏆🏆🏆

  23. Great team as long as Tatum doesn’t get caught up in mvp talk. Not a slight against him but is hard now days to keep it fluid, especially in 4th qtrs if chasing numbers and the national media talking mvp numbers every other day may make a guy try to meet their standards. Need to stress as a fan base the fact he plays two ways well and most candidates don’t.

  24. I saw Jaylen smiling quite a bit this game, especially while watching Hausers celebration after the ally oop. I don't think ive ever noticed him smile in a game before.
