Hi y’all,
I’ve been watching Bucks film, trying to break down what’s been working for the offense and what not.
What I thought would probably work best because of Dame’s range and Giannis being the best rim runner in the universe, would be a super high pick-and-roll ([super-high Horns set](https://youtube.com/shorts/cPkHw2CrzyM?si=zS0-7879SJr7NHWy)). Ideally, a stagger (double screens) with Giannis and Brook creating the dilemma of the following threats:
– Dame: driving/shooting/passing
– BroLo: rolling/popping
– Giannis: rolling/passing
This is kinda effective, but all the players involved don’t seem to quite feel this out — yet. Giannis is doing a soft screen and rolling, probably because he anticipates pressure, and Dame expects double teams even though they have stopped always doubling him. BroLo sets fantastic screens, though.
What seems to be working great, and to everyone’s strengths, is the [Pistol set](https://youtu.be/-62TOKx8mfA?si=JrRipZzWC9vE7bWU). I’ve seen people in the US call that “Zoom action”, “Zoom Pistol”, “21 chase”, “Chicago”, “Triangle”, etc. I’ve also seen these mean slightly different things, too, but I digress.
The good thing with his action is that either Dame and Giannis can control the offense. What is even better is that this set lets Giannis be Giannis and supercharge one of the most devastating actions in basketball: a Giannis DHO (dribble handoff) to Dame, and the benefits are very similar to what most hoped for a super-high horns action.
Why this?
– Giannis: rolling/passing
– Dame: driving/passing/shooting
– Khris/Beasley: popping/catch-and-shoot
– BroLo: catch-and-shoot/rolling
– Marjon: Kawhi 2.0
An interesting wrinkle was when the Bucks ran a [Pistol-Hammer set](https://youtu.be/5yKbopR3PUA?si=sSR4WcOeDDjuChKN), which is something the Raptors used to ran quite a bit.
TL;DR: Most expected the Bucks to be devastating running Dame/Giannis PnRs for Dame near the logo. The Bucks are devastating running Dame/Giannis DHOs at the wing/key.
