Yikes, not great Bob. But I’m glad he’s launching it, 10 FGA is good. Hopefully he keeps shooting until he finds his shot again.

    1 of 12 now and 0 for 6 from 3

Have they been changing his form or something? Genuinely don’t understand why he can’t hit a shot so far

  3. WheelchairEnchanter

Has his form changed? It doesn’t make sense to me that he is struggling so hard to shoot given his history

  4. IHavePoopedBefore

He needs to stay down there for a while. He’s 19 and needs to catch up to NBA speed, it’ll be good for him

  5. We just keep missing on our picks lol. Scottie the one miracle in a cesspool of wasted picks.

  6. Street-Common-4023

Still believe in him he’s only 20. People dont randomly lose there ability to shoot

This is why you never draft shooters, you should always draft scorers. Hopefully he can turn it around but if you are a one trick pony and you’re not great at your one trick, then that’s not going to bode well. I’m hoping he pulls it together too but I’m losing confidence. Edit – I’m still high in Grady. I hope he starts getting some momentum.

To be honest, the whole 905 team stinks. Even JFL is laying all bricks tonight.

  9. Not giving up on the kid, but man, Webster and the new scout group are fucking cheeks at finding and developing talent.

This isn’t about Gradey. The last few 905 teams have been garbage.

Definitely cause for concern. Definitely *not* cause to write him off entirely. He’s still young, and it’s still unlikely that a shooter as good as him in high school and college just suddenly can’t shoot anymore. That kind of thing is possible (i.e. Markelle Fultz) but it only happens in exceptional circumstances. That he’s perfect from the line in the NBA (on very few shots, sure, but still) is a positive indicator.

  11. dont wanna be that guy but… Jordan Hawkins was my favourite player for our pick, he went right after grady and has been killing it so far…

Shooters have to shoot. It sounds obvious but the last thing we want is him to become afraid to shoot. Keep launching it Gradey. That form is sweet! It’ll come back, I promise!!

  13. That’s why it’s time for the NCAA to have the same 3pts lines as the NBA.

  14. imma keep saying it. right now he isn’t good at all but that doesn’t mean he will be trash long term. rookie year a wash for most role players like gradey

  15. WorldTwisting

He’ll be fine in the long run.

The one thing though is if he isn’t shooting well, does he do enough to be a starter? Hope so.

  16. Honestly didn’t expect him to do too much in the G-League.

Gradey isn’t someone that can create his own offense yet, he needs specific plays to be ran for him in order for him to be successful whether that’s DHO’s or set plays that get him open. He’s not going to get that in the G-League, especially when he’s not a permanent part of the roster and just goes down to play a game here and there. He did okay in Summer League because Nowell was actively looking for him and the team strategy was to get him open. With that said 1-12 is honestly pretty bad consider it’s the G-League.

Personally I like to see him get a few plays called for him to get him open every game – whether that’s in the middle of the 2nd quarter or garbage time. Jakob and Scottie are both really good screeners, I’m not sure why we don’t run more DHOs with them or have Gradey curl off of their screens to get open looks. Maybe it’s because Darko/team doesn’t have enough trust in the rookie right now but that’s going to have to be how we get him going IMO.

Overall I’m not too worried, it’ll take some time for him to find his shot and adjust to the physicality of the league but once he does he should be able to find a solid role. For guys that are calling him a bust… just remember that it took Steve Nash 5 years to hit double digits in scoring and he was a 22 year old rookie out of College.

Corey Kispert is another guy that struggled a LOT coming into the league. Put up like 3PPG on horrible percentages in his first 20 games but once he found his rhythm and adjusted he took off. He was an older rookie at 22 years old as well.

Tbf his shot always looks good even when he misses

  18. SadInternal9977

He had several that bounced out a lot of the guys were missing short.

  19. Massive_Secretary658

Toronto had so many options in the draft and they went with this guy 😂. I understand the pick but this whole situation with Gradey is unlucky af

  20. RyyKarsch

    The shot will come.

Just have to keep supporting our guy and hopefully these minutes help.

  21. crustached

He might take as long as Malachi to hit his stride, but he will

  22. GattacaCalisthenics

Good thing he is very close friend with Scottie. He will fix him in no time

  23. Barnicus57

Meh. He’s 19 years old and the season is about 1 1/2 months old. I’ll be concerned if he’s playing like this in year two or three.

There’s way too much pressure being put on a kid who wasn’t even a lottery pick. Chill.

  24. _Gourmand

I’m still not worried at all. I guarantee he’s going to have a big game where he shoots like 5/8 from 3 and everyone will be praising him around here

  25. JuanSpiceyweiner

We could have had George or Hawkins but no Masai had to go get the prototypical Raptor that is 6’8 and cant shoot yet his entire game is shooting

  26. Phil_Dude

Perfect situation for him. Playing a bunch of games, make a bunch of mistakes, pushing his cardio and stamina. He’s probably gassed but it’s good for him.

  27. odetothemodernage

Is there a reason we didn’t draft Jordan Hawkins ??

  28. iamlegend__

At the moment its not looking good at all. Who we were supposed to pick, Jordan Hawkins, is averaging 12 PPG+ on 35% from 3PT (albeit not a good FG at 38%) but the Pels have so many injured guys that he’s getting real serious minutes. But regardless, Hawkins can shoot it a lot better than Gradey can by the looks of it right now. Hopefully, Dick picks it up and starts to not think too much and just fire away like he did in Kansas. He also has to adjust a bit and understand driving to the cup like he did in Kansas is a whole different ball game against NBA MEN. He often finds himself in a whole lot of trouble when he tries to forcefully take it to the basket – he’s too weak. Hopefully 905 basketball gives him the space needed to get reps in b/c I do believe there’s still a very large chance he pans out to be an absolute sniper and good player for us. I don’t think a guy with this type of natural shooting ability and IQ just suddenly forgets how to play basketball. He also probably needs to take pressure off himself (pressure we had a part in putting on him) to be the lone ‘sniper’ of our team. Yes, as a team we’re not particularly that great from 3PT but asking a rookie to make up that sizeable difference is stupid and won’t help him at all. Rooting for him.
