Boston Celtics do the little things on bad shooting night to beat Atlanta Hawks

The Celtics shot 27.7% from 3, normally a recipe for disaster, but still managed to score 113 points and beat the Hawks by 10. John Karalis of Boston Sports Journal explains how the little things added up to the big win, led by Al Horford doing a little of everything. Plus, the Celtics did give up another big lead, which is not great, but they got it together to hold on for the win, and that’s a really good thing at a time we should expect the Celtics to be less than perfect.

  1. If you was gone tell me Bogdanovic was gonna turn into prime Kyle Korver it would have saved me a few heart skips. But we live another day. Not a pretty win but BIG BOARDS love to see it from Queeta and even AL who looks 10 years younger

  2. White, Horford, Brown and the bench were great tonight! Have to get to bed but thanks for all you do John and have a great week Celtics Nation! ☘️🔒

  3. It’s ok KP out now. Cs only have 2 games this week and then there is the play in rest week, he should be fine by the end of that, also this is good for giving Quetta and Kornet more playing time to get a better picture of how they can fit in this team.

  4. John, regarding that 3rd qtr, Scal was right when he said at half-time that the Hawks, having been down after the 1st half, would come out.in the 3rd with "physicality".

  5. What more do i want? here's 5:

    1. for the celtics to win ALL winnable games, to win all the games vs. bad teams. like that charlotte loss.

    2. for the celtics to have far and away the best record in the league and not having to worry about blowing out the bulls to get to vegas. yes, i wanted us to win the IST cup too.

    3. for mazzula to stop giving the excuse of letting the team work it out themselves. that's why Mazzula's there; to help them figure it out. it's also good training for him to come up with better ATO plays because lets be honest his ATO sets have been at best: uninspired. At worst: trash (like that last play in regulation vs. the hornets). Call your timeouts Joe. dont let those go to waste.

    4. For the C's to show faster growth this season in terms of making the right reads, boxing out, setting screens, more off-ball movement, making FTs and not settling for 3s.

    5. to develop the killer instinct required of a true chip contender that knows how to step on opponent's throats and blow them out when they're on the ropes. look at the nuggets.

  6. I don't know how on that play where Hunter leaned forward and Brown fell on his back nothing was called. Here at Spain that's an automatic unsportsmanlike foul, which would be the equivalent of a flagrant 1. The NBA has this rule which makes refs call flagrant fouls on defenders for stepping on the shooter's landing space because it's potentially dangerous, well, that action Hunter did is way more dangerous.

Even in football where the pace is slower, the players are smaller and the court isn't made of wood but grass, it is considered as a very dirty play.

  7. So, coach Mazzula, in press conference, emphasize offensive rebounding and Al Horford (3 offensive rebounds) looking at the numbers, nice.
But there was a guy, coming from an injury, that played less than a half minutes of Horford and got's the double offensive rebounds (6) than Horford… was a distraction, right?

  8. For everyone who wants to keep talking about the games we lose, the 86 Celtics lost 1 home game all year & it was to a team that was -.500.

    They also lost 1 away games to the 6th, 8th, 9th, 10th & 11th in the East.

2 games to the 7th seed.

All of those teams were -.500.

Why is anybody surprised that a team that went, Philly, Toronto, Memphis/Charlotte back-to-back, Bos, Orl, had a illness go through the locker room & a couple of minor injuries dropped a couple of games?

If they won all of those games, we'd be talking about how great we were through that tough stretch.
