[Tim Bontemps] Loss to Suns “really summed up where the Knicks are at: They’re the ultimate try-hard team…And they’re just too reliant on Julius Randle; he’s just not good enough to get them ultimately where they wanna go”

This isn’t the burn you think it is but I know that will fall on deaf ears. I think we all know this team isn’t a title contender if we have to rely on Julius as a top 2 option. I think we’re also too reliant on Brunson having stellar games. Basically we need a proper superstar or for someone to take a huge leap as a playmaker, which doesn’t seem like a hot take. If Jules is on this team when it is in proper contention, he needs to be the third option behind Brunson and whoever else as the 1a/1b.

I think pretty much everything they said about both Randle and Brunson are pretty accurate.

For as good as Randle is, the team *is* too reliant on him. I think everyone, regardless of where you are in the Randle-spectrum, understands that we can only go so far with him as the #2 option, and if we want to be contenders we need another star so Randle can be the #3 option, or even have him and Brunson be 2A/2B on any given night.

And for as good as Brunson is, he isn’t a superstar-level player and he isn’t good enough for us to contend with him as the #1 option. I love him and he’s a great, but that’s the flat out truth.

We still need either 1) a Superstar or 2) A 3rd Star player, on par or better than Brunson, to become legit contenders.

So yes, while what they said is accurate, this isn’t some groundbreaking analysis lmao. This is something all fans, media, and our FO understands.

We been knew this…like Melo said, “This is nothing new.”

    Silly silly silly

Last year nobody even won 60 games. The parity is great in the NBA this year and a team like us is still going to lose 45% of the time. Sometimes we miss our FTs and let up some long offensive rebounds to the other team. Doesn’t matter

Pick up our heads, let’s crush the Hornets and book our flights to Vegas and win the In Season Tourney

Get a second star to go along with Brunson and the conversation around Randle will evaporate with him as third option.

  5. Most knicks fans are well aware of that. But we seem to forget that the average age of our rotational players is like 24. We have young players who will ideally continue to develop and hopefully julius can slide into the 3rd star. Not one player is in their prime years yet. As of now theres no reason to move on from julius unless were getting a star in return. Since thats not an option yet we can continue to be a playoff team with him which for some reason people seem to think is a bad thing based off how people act in this sub.

And if we won…”who cares KD wasnt playing”

The same regurgitated nonsense. I don’t expect anything less from the bozo that posted this. For some reason the Knicks are always “in dire need for a star”. If we were to trade for a star, the whole complexion of this team changes and we lose most of our drafted players. The front office is not in a rush to compete right away and the fans for some reason feel like this year is the end all be all. Allow the team to continue to grow…they’re still very young.

  8. Why did you cut out the rest of the quote about Jalen Brunson OP?

He’s spitting facts. If one of us were to say what he said we’d be accused of being toxic to the sub.
