Miami Heat: Can they find room for Nikola Jovic? | Five on the Floor

Many had high hopes for second-year man Nikola Jovic after his strong play this summer, but he hasn’t found a regular spot in the rotation, and has expressed some discomfort with his role. So how do the Miami Heat maximize their current roster while still giving Jovic the reps to grow? Ethan, Alex and Brady try to have a nuanced discussion about the hot topic on #HeatTwitter.

  1. Jimmy Defends taking a last shot 3.

    1. If you say, go for win on road

and tie at home, that qualifies.

    2. JB almost has the lowest FG%

on the team, at .474, while his

3pt % is .415, this seems to support

    JB.

    Here’s what doesn’t qualify:

    A. JB was 0 for 4 in Q4 before missing

    the 3.

    B. The Team shot maybe it’s worst as a franchise

meaning the confidence quotient at all-time low.

    C. Biggest reason may be this, JB shoots 42% FT’s to shots taken.

    So from .474 x 1.42 = .677% may be his real % of success.

PS: I called for JB to take more 3’s during the last season, and that

    Ask has paid off.

Spo’s full resume is incredible, less credible is how this team loses games.

I believe playing small doesn’t help. In Q4 the max effort given by the team,

leaves little left in the tank in Q4.

HH out, JC in, well, Spo just might do that, though, HH is Miami’s 4,

Cain is Miami’s best guard rebounder. And not a 4 or 3.

In Q4, go to a bigger lineup, NJ, KLove, OR, and if TB had more help.

Bam with any of these 4 choices or any 2 of the 5 choices.

Miami has never been deeper down low,

Please show it on the court as well.

  2. Jovic has to play at a fast pace pushing the ball and in rhythm putting him at the 5 is a set up for failure

  3. Another thing about translating in reporting is that some verbs and adjectives are approximations instead of direct matches.

  4. Niko is a 2 or 3 the fact profesional coaching can’t tell or aren’t willing to play him in the position he’s comfortable and thrive is telling. (Bam is the exception not the rule, and we don’t know if he would have excelled sooner playing the 4)

  5. This team has too many forwards who do similar things. At least Jovic brings in a different element but he's defense does need to improve.

  6. Heat should've never drafted this kid if they had no intentions of playing him. We all know how the Heat is. They like their vets. This kid should be playing now, but since is the Heat. He's 2-3 yrs away🤦🏽‍♂️

  7. Can you stop with that he's only 20 years old stuff. There are plenty of 20 year olds in the NBA balling out. Erik spoelstra just likes to play undrafted older players who have spent 4 years in college. It's not like they're really developing these guys. These guys are already developed. They are grown men by the time they get into the NBA. I have never seen them pick up and undrafted 19 year old and develop that person. They get grown men and claim they are developing these grown men. When they're already developed. Give me a break on that whole heat culture developing stuff.

  8. Jovic doesn’t even know what position he plays. So how can anyone say he’s not a center. If anyone tried to understand the grand scheme by the heat they can see why this guy can dominate as a point center who can spread the floor allowing guards and forwards to attack basket.

  9. The Heat are screwing Jovic just like they did Beasley. Hope they don't destroy his career like they did Beasley! They should try to move him sooner rather than later to a team where he plays and where he can develop, instead of wasting his potential.

  10. Niko doesn't play because he isn't fluent in Heat basketball, which is the hardest languages to learn in the NBA. Also, Niko is talented enough to see floor time which goes back to a Spo criticism as it relates to his rotations.

  11. Snider before Jovic seems fishy to me, die hard Spo fan but he is notorious for playing these guys out of their position and not at their strengths. Kid had a hell of a summer and he’s sitting on the bench.

  12. Jovic has the best offensive package on the Heats team. I love Coach Spo but he don’t know how to use that type of talent. He’s a 6’11’’ point guard/wing

  13. If they could find room for Drew Smith they find room for Nikola. The question is do they want to? I don't think they do, but wateva

  14. Oddly enough, I'm less concerned about the position than I am about the apparent lack of belief from the Heat. Scheduled-loss games are perfect opportunities to get big minutes from the promising young players. The fact that he didn't start OR play a lot in meaningful moments just shows that the front office (Spo or even higher up) still doesn't see him as NBA ready after more than a year. They need to either cut their losses or get him playing time, otherwise his confidence and ceiling will both suffer.

  15. That's why Jovic must be a point guard,not a 4,or a 5. Spo get your shit together,and play the guy. Listen to Buttler,he isn't a 5.
