[Klay Thompson] “What you want [Steve Kerr] to bench me? You could suggest it… thanks Steve, I guess… I don’t care what people say, they don’t do what we do. I don’t care what people say.”

Last year with the 4 rings stuff. And playing hero ball.
Wonder is he’s okay?? And all the criticism hurting his play
Aintnostoppingusnow
I know Steph isn’t Mr Perfect but it’s gotta be tiring sometimes dealing with Klay and Draymond egos. The way Steph is so selfless doesn’t seem to rub off on them at all. And I already know Draymond is a lost cause but I love Klay and understand why he’s in his feelings over not playing to his abilities but I really hope he can set his ego aside and do what’s best for the team. Whatever that means at any given time

I love Klay but he’s got to reflect on his humongous ego…
rarestakesando
Klay stunting on fools. I’m here for it.
george_costanza1234
Does he really think he’s that safe from being benched?
Cause that would be really detached from reality, and very unfortunate to see from him.
motherthrowee
I love Klay but no one thinks he doesn’t care lol
“and another thing: im not mad. please dont put in the newspaper that i got mad”

Legit answer for the dumb question he was asked.

This seems like a time when Klay needs to be honest with the press re: his court struggles. He’s been reflective and open in the past but clearly he’s struggling emotionally and we’re seeing less of that easy going Bahamas attitude that’s made him so endearing. It’s got to be tough on him, but he has to accept and adapt.

I’m gonna pretend Klay reads these comments:
Klay, you’re gonna build yourself a wall between yourself and the fan base if you keep going the way you’re going. This fan base loves you. We love you and everything you’ve done for this team. We also know that Father Time is undefeated and it’s okay to accept a living legend has passed their prime.
YOU need to accept you are passed your prime and you trying to play like it’s still 2015 is HURTING THE TEAM. If you coming off the bench means a better chance at winning one final championship, why wouldn’t you do that??? Is it about winning or is it about stats for you?
Steph is the only guy who’s still playing at an otherworldly level. You and Draymond need to sit back and do everything possible to win one final time together. Whatever it takes.
Again we love you. We still love you. But if you continue with this shit, a good portion of this fan base may end up hating you before you retire.
Yes Steph is the guy you all need to support. It’s about winning. Playing together as a team. It’s not about you. But it’s not about him either. You can’t keep trying to play like you’re 27 anymore. What would be so bad about coming off the bench?
AMS_GoGo
Man his ego is currently leading to one of the worst transitions from Star to role player I’ve ever seen… Someone gotta link him the Draymond clip of the stages of an NBA player
Level_Ruin_9729
Klay playing his way to a veteran’s minimum contract for next year.
FNF51
He’ll continue to chuck up shots cuz he thinks he’s 2019 Klay. He’s got to adjust his game. He doesn’t get open like he used to
d0nutd0n
He does care… remember how long he went on about being left out of the 75th anniversary team?
Pei_area
Get reminded of Carmelo doing the same thing. Sorry bud, you’re not going to the bench yet, but it’s not as crazy as you think
mangotail
See this is the problem with only posting snippets of what Klay said. He said he’s cool with being benched, but of course no mention about that. TK is a shitty reporter and it’s shocking y’all are supporting him over one of our guys
Floppy_Jet1123
Objectively, yes Klay.
Until you perform better.
purple_cupcake_52
There’s no question he was an absolute baller back in his day but he’s gotta accept the reality that age is catching up to him. I’m not saying he should just retire but he needs to adopt a different mindset
Redditforever12
his feelings are hurt, i mean he practically 40+ yrs old with those injuries. He not a generational talent like KD, so he needs to adjust his perspective.
thelifeofpab
Maybe if everyone was nice to him he’d play well. Like the cloud ball player in elementals
thelifeofpab
Maybe if you asshole were nice to him, he’d play better

Lol he cares 😂
Kdog122025
He’s either going 3/20 or 15/20 next game.

Replace his minutes with Moody. Period. Klay acts like basketball in all reality means anything. You make $40 mil playing a fucking game. Bench the ego.

Say what you want about Klay but I would hate to have do these dumbass Q and As all through out the week.

Thing is, okay is party right. He started slow last year and made 300+ 3s. Three guys don’t care about the regular season, just the playoffs, so it’s all about getting back to the finals.
BobRoss4Life
Once he gets over this bumpy mess his game will age mad well, just gotta accept the smaller role whenever the time comes. He bounced back incredibly well last season (…until the playoffs), hopefully he does the same this year (but with a good bit still left in the tank for a post-season run).
Defense may not be there, but he’s still immensely valuable as a 3pt threat, just need the shot to fall (and to cut out some of the dumb chucks, like the tough over-the-backboard fade). Completely understand sticking with him as a starter until it’s 100% obvious it’s time to come off the bench (or someone else proves themselves worthy of the starting spot). Doesn’t seem like that time is now, although Kerr does give an incredibly long leash for bad play (there’s been a good chunk of games where benching Klay down the stretch wouldn’t have been crazy, and he readily did that with Wiggins)

Oops, I accidentally clicked on the nba thread. I was wondering why “y’all” were suddenly being more ruthless than usual.

Klay’s overreacting a bit to the question imo. But I get it. He’s been through some things, wants to believe in himself and wants the support of the team/coaches to get himself out of this mess. So getting benched after hearing a lot of media outlets/social media/… calling out for it, probably makes him feel like a failure. However, it might be interesting to see him play as a main option for outside scoring with a CP3 led bench unit. Maybe they could look into staggering his minutes or something. Though that means he’d be playing a longer stretch than the other starters.
