[Source Article by ESPN Kendra Andrews – “Draymond is back, CP3 and Curry, Klay’s struggles: What’s next for the Warriors?”](https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/38996249/golden-state-warriors-face-questions-draymond-green-back) (NO PAYWALL)

*You could read the whole article (for free) that adds stats & context to the quotes, but I just chose the more noteworthy parts of the article to save you a click*

### How the Warriors Org (+ some others in the league) Reacted to Draymond’s Suspension:

(Note the difference of use of *team* source and *league* source)

> After initially defending Green, Kerr had sharp words for his longtime forward the day after the league levied its suspension, calling it “inexcusable,” and adding that the organization must figure out how to make sure he doesn’t cross that line again.

>* **Some within the organization have said that Green’s incident with Poole during last year’s training camp cost the team its season** before it even began.

>* **team source told ESPN that Green’s most recent suspension probably won’t derail this season**, but it came at an inopportune time amid a three-game losing streak and with Curry out of the lineup.

> * A **league source told ESPN that the Warriors will back Green no matter what he does**,

> * while **another team source told ESPN the Warriors lost leverage on disciplining him after failing to hold him accountable for punching Poole.**

> Green apologized to his team for the Gobert incident, sources said, and everyone was receptive to the apology.

### The Struggles of the Starting 5 (Notably Klay & Wiggins):

*Not mentioned in the article but the rib cartilage fracture Wiggins suffered during the Lakers series probably didn’t help either*

> “I wish I knew [a solution],” **Kerr said** of his starting five’s struggles. “It didn’t help with Draymond missing camp with the [ankle] injury. **But that group just hasn’t clicked yet. That’s part of the blueprint. That group has to click.**”

> Kerr has repeatedly said that Thompson, who is a free agent at the end of the season, is a notoriously slow starter. But Thompson’s slump to start this season feels different. **His contract negotiations are weighing on him, sources told ESPN, and he appears to be noticeably more frustrated during games. He sometimes sits on the end of the bench by himself during timeouts, or slaps his head after taking a bad shot.**

> As for **Wiggins, sources told ESPN that after missing two months last season over a still undisclosed personal matter, he didn’t take the time necessary during the summer to get back into shape ahead of this season. His lack of physical conditioning annoyed some within the organization, a team source added.**

>Still, Golden State is trying to remain patient with both players — mostly because they don’t have a choice. If Thompson hasn’t gotten out of his funk by then and Wiggins hasn’t found a way to assert his athletic dominance inside, making adjustments could be on the table.

### Steph Curry’s thoughts on the CP3 Experiment:

> Curry has had to carry the load this season, outscoring all other Warriors by at least five points in 13 of his first 15 games — matching his feat in 2015-16,

> **”Winning cures everything. … We weren’t playing that well then and honestly we’re no longer that team that can just, on any given night, bang it out,” a team source said**.

> **Curry told ESPN it was nice that he didn’t have to do something “miraculous” to ensure his team wins consistently.** “Guys are accepting different roles, and that starts with CP, obviously, and his flexibility to come off of the bench,” Curry said. “It’s a huge sign of just a commitment to winning. It’s very reminiscent of what [former Warrior] Andre [Iguodala] did years back.”

>With Paul on the floor, Golden State has a 13.1% turnover percentage. When he is on the bench, that jumps to 17.0%. Those percentages would rank fifth and 29th, respectively, in the league overall. **”Not to jinx him but the [lack of turnovers is] crazy.” Curry told ESPN of Paul’s start. “That just settles everybody down.”**

  1. Malika with the low key Warriors hit piece.

Edit: my fault I didn’t realize Kendra worked for ESPN. Not sure when that happened.

I doubt very much it’s just the negotiations that are weighing on Klay. Whatever is bothering him goes much deeper than that.

Wiggins might be on the trade block if things don’t improve over the next few weeks.

Klay starting every year off rough points to being undisciplined about the upcoming season. He was so good we just overlooked it. I know they all can’t have Steph level discipline but this does not bode well for a guy in obvious decline who now thinks he’ll find his way out of it as usual.

I would like to be wrong and y’all can point out I was being overly dramatic. I can only give my thoughts based on what we’re seeing and reading and I’m not feeling good about the season until Kerr shakes things up. Klay needs a reduced role and can give him more minutes if he shows improvement. Wiggins just needs to commit to the game and not keep one foot in and one out but he is a starter no doubt.

Who is this reporter, and who are these “sources”. Sometimes, these reporters just report some things they think are happening without any truth.

They don’t want to trade Steph, Klay or Draymond. By design that means if the team is still struggling through December and January, and if Wiggins ain’t playing well is a part of it, then he will be on the trade block.

We lost our winning over everything cultue somewhere along the way. I think that 2022 title sort of killed our winning mentality. So many unserious personalities in our team now

Sounds like the source/ESPN is just mad they don’t know what Wiggins’ personal matter was. Kerr, Curry and the team have made it clear they support Wiggins last season.

And he was recovering from a broken rib so of course he’s going to be out of shape.

Please just let our players recover and improve. Good games do not happen overnight. The media ain’t helping. I still believe in Golden State basketball

  10. “Klay’s contract negotiations are weighing on him”

Yes probably bc he’s playing some of his worst ever basketball in a contract year.. Going out on the floor and giving your organization every reason NOT to pay you seems like quite the stressor

  11. We really posting ESPN trash content here citing “sources” like we trust ESPN to have any within the team?

  12. BeetLover1111

“A source said” another article that says nothing? Klay is frustrated with himself not shooting well, obviously he’s also thinking about the contract but the correlation is a bit overblown.

The Wiggins part also says a lot without saying anything, some people were annoyed lol, ok? It’s frustrating for everybody when players don’t play well.

The organization will always back up Draymond? They will but Kerr also said he crossed the line

It’s a slow day for ESPN

  13. I hope the single timeline deniers understand clearly that steph is the ONLY timeline.

Kendra Andrews was never good to before she got hired at ESPN. Now she’s added all of ESPN’s bad habits without noticeably improving anywhere else. Thanks nepotism.
