Austin and Pausha discuss the San Antonio Spurs, who have lost 12 straight games even though Victor Wembanyama’s putting up solid numbers. They talk about whether or not the constant losing in San Antonio could affect Wembanyama’s development, why Wemby needs more of the ball, and where the Spurs could be a few years from now.

Guys, this isn’t 1999 when Duncan was coming into a ready made contender. They need to play this slowly and let Wemby develop, wins and loses are literally meaningless right now, the only thing that matters is Wemby’s health and development. They need time for him to progress too even know what kind of players to put around him.
No amount of organizational incompetence/disfunction could prevent a player with Wemby’s physical attributes from becoming a superstar. Worst case scenario, he’ll have a career similar to Anthony Davis. Best case scenario, he’ll wind up on NBA Mount Rushmore
I kind of hate how small the window to develop wemby seems to be to many people. I swear they think if hes not playing the most optimal baskettball of all time for him for even 5 minutes that his growth is immediately is stunted
Sochan is a weak PG. Spurs could start there
they could win 40ish games this year. they need a pg. under no circumstances should Jeremy Sochan be your starting pg. Jeremy couldnt be the pg for a bad D3 team. Tre Jones could help them win 40ish games
All of Victor's points are difficult because the Spurs do not take advantage him when he has mismatches, seals, rim runs, etc.
He's doing to work to get position around the basket and hustling up the court every break, and his teammates (with the exception of Tre Jones) are borderline incompetent at feeding him the ball
Vassel def long term
When he’s under the rim they don’t find him
1st picks (or top 10 picks) Rookies are SUPPOSED to lose a lot early in their careers. Not everyone can be picked by an already great team like Duncan, Kobe or Tatum lol
Totally agree!!! Why the hell are they not giving him the ball every possession?!?! I don’t get it.
A calculated tank for 1 year can truly make them a contender within 2 years. It’ll be what’s best for the long run
Defensively victor is there.. offensively he is very talented and has potential but he needs HELP… he is resorting to hard shots and playing far from the rim because he doesn’t get fed, he doesn’t get easy shots, the spurs are not putting him in a position to be efficient…
I wouldn’t be surprised if pop is just putting victor straight into the fire so he can develop the clutch gene and how to make difficult shots.. I.e. how it will be every minute when he does get to the playoffs.. but we will see
Whomever told Rivers that that background is a good choice is not doing him any favors 😅
Comment section is missing the point… It's not about Wemby not being good early, it's about SAS tanking on purpose again
Was this is a discussion when Jordan was on those 80's Bulls teams? It all worked out in the end… drafted Pippen, traded Oakley, etc.
Can we chill?
People seem to forget that theres always going to be a 30th place team, a 29th a 28th and on and on. Someone gotta lose, if you cant handle losing as a rookie, same as 95% of high prospect rookies also go through, you soft. Men go off to wars, work long hours, spend long hours away from family.. months even but these "men" can't handle getting paid millions and a cusby lifestyle? The bubble whining speaks to this, those soft little men couldnt handle hanging out with the guys, playing golf and getting paid millions to play ball? I was just on a week trip for work. There were no tears because I not a toddler. Screw that, ofcourse its ok to lose at the start. Sac up
Needs a PG.
He's the number one overall pick. Expect a lot of losing in your first year.
Man drives 70 miles in 45 minutes? Even in Texas that's wild
I Think wemby's own teammate hate on him n dont pass him the ball enough
Austin Rivers is spot on
Seems pretty obvious Sochan at the point is to develop his decision making skills. I like Tre as a backup PG….he plays hard, but will get destroyed on the defensive end if he was a starter.
The best case scenario is the Spurs get a top 3 pick and land their PG or center of the future. From there, you trade or sign for the other postion.
Wemby, Devin and Jeremy (as a small forward) plus your top 5 Center or PG is a good core to develop
nice
