Minnesota Timberwolves down Oklahoma City Thunder, stay atop West despite Anthony Edwards injury

The Minnesota Timberwolves held onto the No. 1 slot in the Western Conference by defeating the Oklahoma City Thunder despite losing Anthony Edwards to a hip injury in the third quarter. Ben Beecken (@bbeecken) breaks down a win with plenty of unlikely heroes, including big fourth-quarter moments from Troy Brown Jr. and Naz Reid, while Rudy Gobert captained the Wolves’ stifling defense as they stifled OKC down the stretch.

  1. Lol really Ben? Shake Milton wasn't a dud? He's been a dud in every game. I don't care if he's playing "out of position". Most guys on this team are doing that and finding ways to be productive. He is an automatic turnover every time the ball leaves his hand. People had a hard time grappling with the fact that Jaylen Nowell had such a steep drop off after a productive season as well and the guy never rebounded from it. It's the NBA. It happens. It's tough to hang around in this league. He had everyone fooled to start the season. 76ers needed guard depth with Harden forcing his way out and they still let the guy walk out the door. They knew something we didn't.

  2. Hopefully Edwards only misses a couple games… That being said, he absolutely needs to chill on the clapping/dramatics with the officials. Please.

  3. I love the weekly tradition of Ben criticizing the +/- metric and proceeding to use it while explaining why x player did well or poorly. Jokes aside, tks for the great content, Ben

  4. It will be interesting to see what the offense is going to look like without Edwards. They will miss his scoring but I would be curious to see if the ball movement is better and if it can activate other guys on the team to step up and be more active scorers. The will definitely need to be better with not turning the ball over. It's been a nightmare watching this team get into a rhythm offensively and then go down the floor and either take multiple quick, bad shots or throw the ball away. The other unfortunate side of this is the fact that it will ultimately lead to more Shake Milton minutes which is obviously a big negative. Nothing to suggest that more playing time will lead to him figuring it out on the court.

  5. Shout to Troy brown . He helps solve 3 wolves issues. He hits open shots. Attacks close outs. Most importantly he rebounds. Love the rebounding

  6. I lost some respect for SGA. Never knew how often he extends his arm to create separation. Or the harden head whiplash BS.

  7. Conley isn’t at the point in his career to create offensive gravity. He can space and keep the ball moving but this game he seemed like he was trying to be high usage.

Our biggest weakness is the lack of a 3rd guy with true offensive gravity. In a game with Ant hurt and KAT playing terrible, I am honestly surprised we made it work.

  8. We can’t just say it was great defense. It was ugly mucky offense. Between the insane amount of whistles, and both teams just missing shots, the defense will get the attention but the wolves offense looks bad.

  9. Wouldn’t this game be a good reason why single game +/- is loud? KAT had a bad game. He had moments but not even his average.
