Boston Celtics blow out Chicago Bulls, advance to In-Season Tournament knockout round

The Celtics played it cool in the lead up to this in-season tournament game, but in the end, they were aware of how badly the needed to beat the Bulls and they went for it. The result was a 27 point win and, with the Brooklyn win, a berth in the IST knockout round. John Karalis of Boston Sports Journal gets into the great basketball stuff we saw, including playing with a big lead, and then gets into the weirdness the tournament forced Boston into. Regardless of how you feel about it, this is what the NBA wanted.

  1. Not gonna lie. I love the in season tournament. I want the C’s to win the first ever. They have a chance to make history.

  2. Absolutely hate the in season tournament. The courts are hideous and slippery, and the NBA is the only league that will penalize a guy for hanging on the rim long enough to land safely because it’s unsportsmanlike, but also encourage you to hang as many points as possible on opponents for some stupid marketing scheme.

  3. It was the same response to the play in tournament for the playoffs. Everyone hated it and said it was stupid and it’ll never work and now it’s produced some very entertaining playoff games. People just hate change

  4. If they lose the Indians Monday they will play the lower of the Knicks vs bucks game. If they just miss all those days after Monday like you suggested, they would only play 81 games.

  5. The Bulls win should let everybody know this team is different than last season. Boston struggled to beat Chicago last season. 14-4 and people were having a cow over a few losses. This team is only going to get better.

  6. Lol. You’re falling right in line aren’t you? I wasn’t such a critic of your stance on the tourney until you said all this in this episode.
It explains why you’re a left leaning person 😂

Btw all bad press isn’t good press for an entity 😂

  7. I like the tournament gives you a preview of the playoffs. Also takes the mundane out of a long season.
If this was grade school, yeah I
can see coaches getting mad about running up the score

These are adult men, feels weird to see them cry about this. I say play hard to the finish.

  8. I understand why you would need to listen to yourself, and enjoy it. In all actuality you are analyzing how to improve yourself, and how you’ve executed your improvements, and yes that might bring joy to yourself. A type of joy that only you could uniquely understand. It could seem weirdly narcissistic to some by saying it’s your favorite show to listen to, but it’s a different type of listen, it’s actually very important for you listen to yourself IMO, if you didn’t, the quality would suffer. So is it a weird thing to say? I’d say it’s the truthful. It is insightful to me to hear a creator share a snapshot of their creator thoughts (and with a touch of dry humor) I like it.

  9. Adam Silver is globalist.
All for selling out on history/culture for a profit. Citation:
Commentary at the end of this podcast to net in the younger audience by switching up the courts.

  10. Series of wreckless plays near the end of the 4th made by JB makes me want to punch him in the face. Besides this, he played a good game.

  11. This tournament is cool, because it gives a sense of urgency early in the season, young teams could get better, because the young guys want this money, players have something more to play for, if I could suggest something, the prize needs to appeal to the stars a little more. Something different than money. Might need a few years to figure out what that could be.

  12. Who the heck cares about point differential. If your team is bad they bad go cry about it we baby everyone nowadays teams should be beating teams by 40

  13. I love the tournament. I have been exposed to them in Greece. It's similar to the Beanpot tournament and I think we all love that.

  14. I like the IST it forced the Celtics to push harder in the 3rd no matter the lead hope they can take that from this game.

  15. The league needs to apologize for unsportsmanlike conditions they created. Not the teams or players. I realize guys working for the nba have to endorse and feign excitement for pr but I agree with Jaylen. I’m indifferent to the tourney. Disappointed with the reality of how it played out and they need to make it equate to post season incentives to sell it to the fans.

  16. Hanging on to a lead and not letting up might be a good habit to encourage for the Celtics in general.

  17. I really enjoyed the game watching experience last night. The NBA got what they wanted, which was more excitement around an early season game, and I was definitely more excited watching that game. Sure, some things were different, but in my opinion it was 'good-different'. Thanks, John, love the show.

  18. The only people complaining about point differential is media. Most fans love it. Like how most fans were fine with the play-in tournament; it was media that was critical. Now everyone loves it or take it for granted and treat it as part of the season.

The NBA tailoring things for fans instead of media? Thank god.

  19. IST rules. I haven’t been that engaged in every second of a 30 pt win in a long time! However, I bet they change the tie breakers to use regular season record first next season and then use a point differential since the veterans in the league seem to like the IST but not the point differential.

  20. I love the in-season tournament, but definitely do not love point differential. Really looking forward to the knock out rounds.

  21. Jaylen, Jaylen. Hes the reason this team has been transitioning faster and it just seems to flow better. Keep it up.🤞
