Hypothetical Trade Idea with Grizzlies

Would you consider a trade where we’d acquire Marcus Smart and Ziaire Williams for Grimes, Evan and some light pick compensation? I figure the picks will ultimately balance the deal and we all have differing views about their worth but Memphis only does this deal if they are taking back draft assets that may be packaged with a player to put a better win-now piece around Morant and co.

I think Smart is a Thibs player and would enable us to run some interesting lineups while not hurting our defense. He also provides leadership and playoff experience/reliability. I think an underrated quality would also be his familiarity with teams at the top of the East.

Ziaire Williams theoretically provides us the wing shooter/defender we covet at a position of need at his size (6’9″, 6’10.5 ws). He’s only 22 years old and missed much of last season due to injury but is coming along. His shooting splits are largely affected by a lack of volume, the recent injury and state of his team at the moment in my opinion. He could be a steal from a team who may look to shake things up after a very rocky start.

Memphis may look to take a step back from the completed trade and acquire a less proven but capable defender in place of Marcus who they believe can fit in well with their roster while also adding a veteran piece for shooting depth, OR, look to package the young player on a rookie contract, along with the draft pick and salary filler to hunt for their next trade and reconfigure.

Just for the record I am not down on Grimes and this is not in response to his recent play. I’m actually a huge Grimes guy. Just overheard Smart as a “what if” name during a Knicks podcast this morning and figured I’d bring the discourse to my good friends here. Let your voice be heard or suggest whatever!
