This Celtics Lineup is Destroying NBA Defenses

The Boston Celtics currently have one of the best halfcourt offenses in NBA history, due in large part to the Kristaps Porzingis trade and the Jrue Holiday trade. Jayson Tatum continues to play at an MVP level with Jaylen Brown alongside him, but now they’re a more well-rounded team than ever.

The Boston Celtics offense is operating under a unique system crafted by Joe Mazzulla, a system heavily derivative of the San Antonio Spurs dynasty that made heavy use of a play called “Motion Strong”.

With the Celtics getting the best versions of Derrick White and Jrue Holiday, they’re beginning to look borderline unstoppable, and in this Boston Celtics breakdown, I explain why.

  1. i mean its what we expected from a 3 allstar 1 borderline allstar team its just funny how the best payed player in basketball is only the third most important player in this team

  2. hope they dont do the same as last year, i love JB and Tatum but we need them to not lose momentum in the playoffs, consistency is key here

  3. When the Celtics were struggling in the past, the offense was one try for Tatum and one try for Brown. With such offense, they made it deep into the playoff many times so the sky is the limit for them today.

  4. The main culprit is Jrue. They finally have a good floor general that fits they defensive mindset that can still score when needed to. That was the missing piece for them. Then they added a floor spacing big that can defend. All of a sudden those pieces they lost only became room for a bigger move. All while still keeping the core intact. Marcus smart was great but Jrue has always been a better version of him. We will see during the season but I think this is long term

  5. What a fantastic breakdown! Love the attention to details and freezes so we can see whats going on. The biggest enemy for Boston is the "dark side" of Tatum and brown when they hunt for isos (the Minnesota game was a great example where they kept attacking jaden mcdaniels at the end, thats on of the best iso Defenders there is, so dumb)

  6. Hot take sorry; They remind me of a revamped Celtic title run with KP being someone similar to KG and Holiday taking over the PG similar yet not exactly to Rondo in screens.

  7. I think the Bucks do bring the biggest threat to them. They nearly came back being down 19 in the 4th quarter and if not for a few missed layups, the Bucks couldve easily taken that game. The celtics also shot uncharacteristically hot from 3 that game. If taking the average numbers, this season series will most likely be a 2-2 match up. Those are the teams that are the favorites.

  8. Celtics to the finals vs Denver. Where they loose to an unstoppable Jokic (if they are healthy). And I am a Celtics fan πŸ™‚

Hoping for a legenday series though!

  9. It's such a joy to watch the starting lineup for the Celtics play with such intensity as they rack up the victories with an awesome display of synchronicity, and ferocity as they attack the rim. The defense is awesome too—the big man, Porzyngis guarding the paint on defense is almost Bill Russell-like; and he has Robert Parrish's offensive capability not only around the basket but adds 3-point abilities as well.

  10. The thing that makes all this action work is that Jaylen is making better reads against defenses this year, particularly in actions involving KP as the primary outlet. The ball isn't sticking in his hands as much this year, even if he's not perfect and his turnovers are still higher than you'd like them to be. That's the key for this team as a whole too: don't give up on the process. If they play the game the way they should on a night to night basis, they can win it all.

  11. Great vid. I would love to know where you get your HD player footage and what kind of LUT or whatever you're using over them. They look even crisper than the Celtics HD postgame vids they do.

  12. "They have the personnel to get as weird as they want" that's why as a Celtics fan, its been so fun to watch them this season. The variety of play and ability to do almost anything on the court with that starting 5 has me so excited

  13. It's championship or bust for these guys anything less is a failure.. I'd like a pure scorer of the bench don't get me wrong I like PP and hauser but I want someone who's job is only to score like how brogadan was used for a consistent 15 points or josh Richardson. Hauser and PP can go cold from 3 and be null invoid

  14. I'd say they're the favorites to win it all. I know Smart was the heart and soul of the team and I will always love him, but the trade was necessary. Jrue is solid on D and a better offensive player as well, and we needed a true big man and KP is just that. Good defender and can shoot the 3. Williams was really only known for his D and was way to injury prone. Already on IR in Portland
