On Ben being the scapegoat

A bit late, but this clip has been on my mind ever since seeing the stuff people write about the Ben situation and how Carlisle keeps blaming Ben for the lack of defence and effort.

For context: this is Wayne Rooney talking about his old Manager Sir Alex Ferguson. Arguably the best Coach in football history in my opinion, and in case you think I’m being biast. I didn’t root for Manchester and I hated Sir Alex for the longest time while still watching football, because he was that good! and his team Manchester united have never been the same ever since he retired in 2013. After 27 years as the head coach.

Great coaches know how to get the best out of their teams. And if you feel like he’s to hard on Ben then he probably is, but I believe it’s because he knows Ben can take it, that that’s the best way to get to ben and the best way to make the other players know they have to play better. I’ve even noticed that he takes out Nesmith quickly as well, so there’s probably more to it then Carlisle just taking it out on some players because he’s that crazy. I don’t believe a coach would be as successful as he has been or last as long if he acted irrationally.

Just look at bjorkgren ffs. The minute the reports came out about him acting weird he was out. Shit like that matters.

Ben needs to find his niche on the offensive end if he’s going to play in the starting 5 with Haliburton.

Right now he looks a little lost in the starting 5 and he can’t just stand on the 3pt line since he’s not the shooter Buddy is. Although I will say i appreciated his offense last game first half, quick cuts, rolling to the rim aggressively, quick decisions with passes.

I think finding his spot will take time and it’s going to be a bit tricky since Haliburton is so ball dominant. Clearly he’s a decent shooter, strong , wide variety of finishing moves, he will be good. Just work on the handles and shooting will go a long way.

Biggest problem is the defensive end. He is not in the right spots, low energy, bad footwork, not helping on the boards. Also I can’t stand how many times I’ve seen him have guys finish around the rim on him and Ben stands there with his arms raised and feet glued to the ground. Other team may miss the layup but he will not react to fight for the rebound he will just stand there in his arms up stance like he’s still defending the ball. Kills me.

Based on his athleticism and strength you would think he could become a plus defender but maybe it’s just not in the cards. If he can’t I think maybe have him focus on crashing the boards similar to Lance. I always thought that was such a unique skill to have a guard that could really help out on the boards like Lance did. Ben certainly has the strength to do it, mostly it comes down to energy, hustle and commitment.
