It doesn't matter if you start Russ or not. The plays should go thru him either in the post or if he's attacking. He cannot be the spot up shooter. Teams will lag off of him on D. Russ is valuable in the energy and emotional sense. Slightly better defender than Harden. Russ needs to attack the basket if it's an easy layup or dunk or kick out in order to maximize his effectiveness. There have been times where he takes questionable shots and it becomes a live ball TO with points for the other team. I like Sat's game vs GS first substitution swapped out Harden and Mann for Russ and Kobe. I like Kobe getting minutes. IMO, you have to rotate that way. Russ and Harden can't be on the floor at the same time, but if Ty is not going to change that then limit their playing time together.
The people who want to start Harden really doesn't know basketball. Harden is a better shooter than Russ but Harden is playing the POINT GUARD not SHOOTING GUARD. RUSS keep a much better up tempo. He's out on transit setting up passing lanes. HARDEN plays slow to set plays THRU HIMSELF. That's how he plays…HE'S THE SYSTEM. right now. KAWHI, PG and the offense is running thru Harden. AND THEY TRY to make up tempo from Russ and the bench. It's not working as well as Starting Russ and you now have three stars russ with tempo rebounding defense KAWHI AND PG.. nothing clashing.
