[Keith Pompey] “The Sixers currently don’t intend to part ways with Harris”

The article Keith wrote said a lot of things but them not wanting to part ways with Tobias Harris pretty much is the main thing he said. What are you guys thoughts?

Embiid might get the Giannis/Jokic script if this happens. Giannis & Jokic both won b2b MVPs but the third year they didn’t win it and instead won a championship. So it could easily be Embiid goes b2b for MVP in 2024 & then finally wins a ring in 2025 when the NET Negatives like Tobias & Marcus Morris are gone.

would really be no reason to come out and openly say we’re looking to get rid of tobias harris. i don’t think they would think twice about trading him if a deal comes together, but outright saying we want to get rid of him and his contract would make him even harder to trade than it already is.

If he wants to put more effort on the defensive end and rebounding we don’t need to part ways with him this year. It just remains to be seen if he’ll make the hustle plays. His contract isn’t handicapping us after this year either.

The picture associated with this article is a masterpiece. Anunoby looks so tired of basketball. Maxey is concerned but doesn’t want to push his friend too hard to talk about it.

Does the article say “Sixers don’t intend to part ways with Harris, but will do it if it helps OG Anunoby rediscover the joy of basketball”?

Makes sense they aren’t getting equivalent value for him. The expiring is worth more to Philly than others. It will be Morris that gets traded at deadline

  6. I think we need a reliable 3rd option, but sincerely I would accept anything for tobias he is mediocre and a poor fit, get some players can shoot 3 and are active on defense. Oubre, batum, covington are better than him, he dont play winning basketball

  7. He’s an expiring deal this year, so the days of dumping him to escape the contract or because of fit are long gone. There are situations where they’d still trade him, but it would have to either be something that makes us better immediately or a case where they dump him for a pick at the trade deadline if they’re 100% sure they’re not re-signing him. For the latter, the team would have to be struggling though, because I doubt they’d do that while we’re trying to compete unless we had injuries or something.

His only value at this point is as a massive expiring contract. Unfortunately that likely means he won’t be dealt unless he actually plays his way out of this slump, in which case they might still prefer to just let him play out the contract anyway.

  9. Whoever would be available in a Tobias trade would likely be on a multi-year contract, and if they aren’t THAT good, the Sixers might rather the contract expire than take back more salary. So I wouldn’t completely dismiss this. But It also doesn’t make sense to advertise that they want to trade the guy.

If they were willing to let the contract expire, that implies they have plans for free agency, which I just don’t really see many free agents worth strongly pursuing. If I were to bet though, I’d still bet on Harris being traded this year for a rotation player they like rather than bank of free agency. I’m just curious how many teams have cap room to spend on a “big name” free agent? Not many, right? Sixers could be positioned to sign someone for lower value than we would originally think. The thing I have faith in Morey is recognizing players that are under-valued vs. over-valued.

We’re always looking for opportunities. If the right trade comes up he’s a goner no doubt

  11. Given his contract, even as an expiring, you’re not getting anyone who helps win this season without sacrificing assets and more than likely you’re swapping for another team’s Tobias Harris situation

  12. “Currently” is doing a lot of work there.

I “currently” have no plans to date Jennifer Lawrence but if she calls me up tomorrow that will change fast.
