Luka Doncic proves if one of those becomes available you give it all up

Luka Doncic put on one of the great offensive displays last night against the Utah Jazz with a 40 point triple double in just 32 minutes. It was a reminder of what it takes to win a title in the NBA and what you should be willing to do if one of those players ever becomes available to your team.

To win an NBA titlte you must have a top 10, a top 20 and a top 50. For the Utah Jazz that is a reminder of the road ahead and what the Jazz have to do in this building process. But how do you ever get a top 10?

A 50 point loss last night to the Dallas Mavericks was as much a case of body blows from Luka and the Mavericks as it was an effort thing for the Utah Jazz.

Walker Kessler’s 2nd year has not gone as people and Walker would have hoped. What is going on and why is has he not progressed as everyone had hoped so far this year

Taylor Hendricks continues to show how much his time in the G-League has helped and a great level of improvement in his two games since Lauri Marrkkanen and Kelly Olynyk have both been out.

  1. when it comes to rookies helping you win, we were really spoiled with Donovan. He came in and had an immediate impact. The jazz making the playoffs was not on anyone's radar that year.
    Having Clarkson, Kelly and Lauri I'm not convinced this game would have been much different. We've been blown out this year with them on the floor as well. Definitely is setting in that this is just how the year is going to go.

  2. Luka is 1 for me because of how absurd he could be. Jokic is fun but luka would get same assists with 40 points and all 40 points buckets will kill you šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚. Iā€™ll throw anything for him to Dallas 7-10 FRP +Hendricks+Kessler+Keyonte + Agbaji+ collins. Anything and try to get defensive guys around Him & Lauri from FA.

  3. Mike Conley was the key last year….period. His leadership and point guard play obviously is a talented, missing part of this team. They have no leader and no true point guard. Trading Conley verifies that Danny Ainge does not know what the hell he is doing.

  4. As playoff teams, by definition, are almost as good, just as good, a little bit better than, the playoff team they are playing, the ten playoff success necessities are relate to creating more options / flexibility than the opponent:

    1. An offense structure that gets every player their best shot as a routine;
    2. defense options that includes zone / whatever;
    3. Every roster spot has a player who can shoot;
    4. all deep playoff teams have a winning road record , so ruthlessly identifying and eliminating / moving on from whatever/ whoever is a drag on that stat;
    5. As consistency is the greatest skill, donā€™t pick players with injury history or who are over 33. ( donā€™t trust any player over 30.)
    6. As Billy Martin once saidā€¦ the key to any baseball team is the center area ( center, shortstop, second baser, center fielder) ā€¦just so the basketball key is point guards, center ā€¦ look at how many point guardā€™s Boston has gone thruā€¦ and the trade they made was for a ā€¦ oh noā€¦ the universally despised.. not of any importanceā€¦center position..
    7. Thatā€™s all folks.

  5. Hindsight always being 20/20, but play with me here. If Utah goes ahead and does the Mitchell trade, but keeps Gobert. How would Utah look? Conley/Gobert playing great in Minnesota, NAW kind of too-can't even remember what we gave up to get him. I Love me some Mitchell, but I also like 7 ft Lauri more than 6'1 Mitchell. Minnesota pretty much has Utah's blue print from a few years back with some upgrades. KAT>Bogey, ANT>Mitchell (Size), Mcdaniels slightly better on ball defender than O'Neal, Anderson is the same slow ball that Ingles was. NAZ there is really no comparison to and Utah still would have got Ochai and Sexton and picks. Does Utah look at the rebuild are wish they would have kept Rudy?

  6. You canā€™t just give up everything for one guy. Ex. Luca alone will not work. He will be here and be the same like Lauri. We will face with the same issues. Lauri and Kesler are very good but they need a player/play maker that could shoot at will alongside of them(somebody like Donavon). I donā€™t like people saying donā€™t have the will to win. There are a lot of things have to happen. I am 5ā€™5ā€ā€ and I am very good baller but if I play against the players that is as good as me but he is taller, it doesnā€™t matter how much will to win I have, I will lose. I will be at his mercy.

  7. -50 points Locke. I mean this whole being a fan of the game shh-tuff is lame. I'm sick of being one of the memes of the league. And if we need to draft someone to be a good team one day then please tell me why the Jazz Organization would wanna win a single game for the next 3 to 4 years??? We need TOP 3 draft picks. Period, anything else is a waste of time and money. And our Jazz past culture and history have proven that. We have never been close to winning a championship and I'm going back and including the Stockton to Malone days, we were never close then either let's be really honest.

  8. So does anyone still believe the Jazz are "Re-tooling" or will the front office finally just admit we are rebuilding….

  9. I don't understand why a team in this community would want a player like Luka. They're leading by more than 20 points at halftime. There is no threat of losing to the jazz. He comes back in to play over 30 minutes and scores 40. I don't see how anyone else would be able to play their game. To me, Luka is too selfish of a player. I find no entertainment in watching a team that is dominated by one player. Our coaches have our ownership has more class and respect for the game than those in Dallas.

  10. Smith/Ainge are destroying the Jazz. I was around the last time the Jazz lost by 50 in the 70's and the Jazz were not cool and the Utes, Cougars college bball was more popular. Who wants to pay money to watch such a losing Jazz team???

  11. Anthony Davis isnā€™t top 10 because heā€™s always injured. Lauri Markenin is better and is in the top 20. AD is also top 20.

  12. Luca Doncic is great but canā€™t be that great in 5 years with that much usage. Heā€™s too 10 fore sure but not too 5. Defense is average

  13. Fonteciio guarded Luca decently on the perimeter because of his length but you have to make it challenging for him. Easier said than Dunn

  14. I'm sorry, but I disagree. One 50 point win against an already bad team that is missing their two top scorers doesn't prove anything. Luka puts up fantastic numbers, but his teams have a history of underperforming expectations throughout his entire career. This is a guy who puts the whole team on his shoulders – and then slogs along not really making a whole lot of real progress, because he's carrying too much weight, and his teammates all just sit back and relax and never accomplish anything because Luka is carrying them.

    He also doesn't play defense because he tires himself out playing offence, and has nothing left to give on the defensive end of the court. That's why he gets as many rebounds as he gets, because he never plays defense. When you're the defender, you're the least likely guy on your team to be in position for the rebound, because you were positioning yourself to defend instead of thinking about where the rebound was going to go.

    His defensive stats look far better than they are, because they always have him defend the worst guy on the other team.

    I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that Luka Doncic will never win a championship. He's James Harden without the beard.

    I like Luka. I want to see him succeed. But I just don't think it's ever going to happen.

    There are some guys who never win because they just get unlucky and aren't ever in a position, even though they do everything right. Like Chris Paul. It's a travesty that he's never won a championship. He does a great job helping his team, but has never been in a position where he could get over the top.

    Then there are guys like James Harden and Carmelo Anthony and Russell Westbrook that are superb players that never win a championship, because the way they play precludes ever being able to win a championship. You could look at those guys in the prime of their career and know that they were never going to win, because they were good enough that they would demand a huge contract, which would diminish the help they could get, but not good enough to make others around them better.

    I think Luka is one of the latter.
