I appreciate how hard Samson has been beating this drum all season. We see that Scottie rises up under pressure – and that we need to push him and see how high he can rise.
It just feels so bizarre to have the guy sitting as a 3rd to 4th option again (with the starters) like last year.
Scottie has plenty of opportunities to get his shots.
It’s not like he’s OG where he’s waiting for teammates to pass him the ball.
Scottie is just very unselfish and looks to pass first.
Scottie has already been -20 or worse 6 times already this season. For comparison, that’s more than Siakam and Vanvleet had combined all of last season running those same bench units. It’s also more than the other 4 starters combined this season
People can blame others for not giving him the ball enough but it’s very clear that this teams biggest letdown is Scottie being way too passive with the bench units and that’s entirely on him. The units are begging for someone to step up and he refuses to do it.
Perhaps worth mentioning that Scottie played on one of the most stacked high school teams of all time, then was a bench player in college. He has never been the guy and perhaps hopefully will one day grow into that mindset. In the meantime, stop scapegoating other players for his own passiveness because he hasn’t shown he can step into that lead role even when handed the opportunity on a silver platter. Darko is literally throwing games away to give Scottie the opportunity to be the main guy on transitional units and he still won’t do it
Truthfully what I’d do this deadline is try to convert the following: Pascal, Poeltl, Schroder, Gary, Precious and Boucher + our expirings. To a gem of a young point guard, picks or serviceable young players, and a vet or 2. If OG isn’t re-signing at all, flip OG instead of Pascal. That’s the game plan.
Samson makes sense mostly but he has a giant hard on for Barnes.
At this point I’m convinced the Raptors are paying him to write puff pieces 24/7 on Barnes.
Someone like Tyrese Maxey or Haliburton would have been great 🤔

I know everyone likes killing a Schroeder right now but which other guard on this team can collapse a defence. Yes he took to many shots and he is in a bigger role than he should be but thats the breaks. I really do think changes are coming at the deadline.
