Why Michael Jordan recruited Dennis Rodman to the Bulls

This is the reason behind why Michael Jordan decided to recruit Dennis Rodman to the Chicago bulls… Scottie pippen didn’t want him at first, but MJ knew they needed his rebounding.

  1. This is a lie, Jerry Kraus said Jordan never asked for another player, ever. Him and Pippen were called into the front office and told Rodman was coming. Fact.

  2. When MJ returned to the Bulls from his baseball odyssey, Horace Grant (and his 10 RPG) had departed for Orlando. When the Bulls lost to Orlando in the playoffs, MJ knew that they had lost because of the lack of rebounding. He then set his sights on recruiting free agent New Jersey Nets Jayson Williams who had averaged 10 rebounds the previous season.

MJ flew to New Jersey to court Williams, telling him, “give me 10 rebounds a game and I’ll put rings on your fingers.” Williams was flattered and intrigued but there was a hitch in the offer and that was money. The Bulls had only $10 million to spend due to cap restrictions and New Jersey had substantially more because of Williams’s ‘Bird Rights’. So Williams reluctantly signed with the Nets.

It was then that MJ realized his worst fears, that the only player on the market who could deliver 10 rebounds per game was Rodman, who the Spurs were shopping due to his insubordination. That’s when MJ went to Phil and Scottie to see if they could handle having the former nemesis and perpetual loose cannon join the team. And as they say

the rest is history.

  3. What are you guys talking about Cubs score basket from 12 to 18 ft.

Dennis rodman said and I quote "scoring is the easiest part of the game".

He averaged 30 points per game in high school in college.

And he's out here giving inspirational speeches and doesn't know what the hell he's talking about putting another man down

  4. Phil Jackson recruited him, not Jordan, Jordan hated Rodman but accepted the decision because he knew hed rather have Rodman on their side. Pippen had a more personal beef.

  5. Actually, Rodman was a pretty good scorer. He was a great all around player on the Pistons. I think he just went for rebounding/defensive specialist to stand out as a player and because he didn’t need to be a scorer on the Bulls since they already had those.

  6. Dude sounds crazy as hell. Clearly he didn't know Rodman was a great scorer in college. But when the Pistons drafted him. They assigned him the dirty work with little to no scoring. As for Jordan recruiting Rodman….that's another lie. Mike didn't recruit anybody, he left that to the front office. Krause/Phil asked Mike how he felt about them adding Dennis. & Mike said if he can help us win I'm cool with it. Mike's only request was that if you add him, he's gotta apologize to Scottie. Now those are the facts.

  7. He could score if he wanted to. He actually had good post moves and could shoot short range all day long. Always will be in my top 3 of the era.

  8. this is misinformation. Rodman could score and if you watch his college and Piston’s highlights they show you as much. He was highly talented. Hell he even hit 3 3ptrs in a row when he was on the Bulls

  9. I played ball my whole life. Tbh, I used to just go all for the rebounds bc I was scared to shoot and miss. It took a lot more confidence to shoot than to just hustle and rebound. There was no pressure to miss a rebound but there was so much pressure to miss a shot!
Rodman took the easy way out and just rebounded and played defense when you had so many other guys like Shaq and even Kevin Love who scored 30 and rebounded 30 at times and basically averaged 20/20 every night.

But Rodman just had 0 points and 15 rebounds. Imagine if LeBron or Shaq just focused on rebounding LOL. He would have 30 every night!! He would be the greatest rebounder of all time!!!

  10. WRONG…. Rodman was a BIG TIME scoring threat when first got noticed in a Junior College league. He was like a HS/College QB who found a better role as a TE or WR when he "moved up".
