How true was this? Tyrese Haliburton could have been a Mav if the Knicks accepted a draft night trade offer, but they declined.

Apparently, back in 2020, the FO wanted TH, so they offered Jalen Brunson, and their 18th and 31st picks to move up. Knicks declined.

  1. I don’t remember specific mention of the Knicks. But I remember MacMahon reported that the Mavs aggressively tried to trade for Haliburton with that package but no one took it. I think NO and DAL were close but he didn’t make it there.

Yeah I remember this after the draft and I’m pretty sure Cuban talked about it on podcast. Patrick Beverlys I think. Deal would’ve made sense for both sides and in hindsight the Knicks wasted the pick on toppin who did nothing while there.

TBH i dont think hali would become the same player next to luka…..he would still be good but the situation hes in with Rick is perfect for him.

Mavs offered that trade package to almost every team picking ahead of them, with the goal of drafting Haliburton.

Take it with a grain of salt, because Bob is a snake oil salesman, but he said in a previous interview that they potentially had a deal in place with Detroit, but Detroit wouldn’t agree to adding a protection making the deal dependent on Haliburton still being on the board when the pick came up.

After 2020 JB became a better player and proved to be a great fit with Luka. Even in restropect, JB, 18th and 31st for Haliburton wouldn’t have been a homerun.

  6. cuban had an interview recently. they did all they can to get him

I’ve heard that multiple times since that draft it’s true

Without Jalen, the 2022 Playoffs run doesn’t happen then :/
