The Story Behind Michael Jordan’s Wizards

Michael Jordan in a Washington Wizards jersey – so foreign, it felt wrong. Unbecoming, even, for the six-time NBA champion and five-time MVP.

Two decades later, Jordan’s brief tenure as Wizards player-owner is mostly referenced as a punchline, but it’s not nearly as laughable as you remember it…

  1. I wasn't old enough to watch him during his Bulls days but I remember watching him play a bit as a Wizard when I was in the 4th and 5th grade lol

  2. Me being from Washington DC and living there during that time, I never thought MJ would actually come back again to play for the Wizards after all ready being part owner and President of Basketball Operations which was already great because I never thought he would ever be part of the Wizards franchise! I loved every moment of his surprise 2 year comeback to the court as well and being able to go to a live game and also being able to see him on the local DC channel on tv 📺 and also cable channels again was truly amazing! This was one of the greatest moments in NBA history.

  3. You totally missed the fact that the Wizards were in the top 4 in the East until Etan Thomas fell into MJ's knee and blew out his meniscus. That's what ended the season. MJ tried to come back and just couldn't. The Wizards imploded without MJ on the floor, and for good reason. They were the worst roster anyone had ever seen in the history of the NBA. Why would you make an entire video about this almost amazing season where MJ would have won MVP at 39 years old and completely leave that out?

  4. This is eerily similar to what's going on with Lebron at the moment. Older teammates, recurring knee issues with bursts of 40 and 50 point games 🤔

  5. Wasn't it that Michael hit knee to knee with Etan Thomas that shredded up his knee further that took him out in 2002?

  6. If Jordan knew how to ask for some help matching players up with him, he could've traded those picks for 1 or two stars and a bunch of solid role players cheap if he told them he was going to play -especially if he's not paying himself a lot

  7. This is why unorguably he is the greatest player that has ever played period LeBron will never reach this level never he done passed up his opportunity to do it and now he hurt so but I would love to see LeBron break the scoring title cuz at least he will leave with that but chasing the legacy of Michael Jordan he will never surpass it never nobody will ever mark my words ever

  8. Loving this one thanks for sharing very information blessed love to all knowledge is power hopefully everyone pays attention keep up the good work 🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲

  9. Most impressive thing his last season, played all 82 games. Everyone came to see Jordan and the man delivered and played in every single game.

  10. even as a Wizard at the age of 38-40 MJ was one of the top players in the league, had he not been injured he may have been top 3 in the league at that point, his last 10 games before his injury he was averaging just over 27 points a game if my memory is correct, and let's face it, he had 0 help on that team and if he would've stayed healthy would have made the playoffs, and when you look at the Wizards the year prior that's an amazing feat, the man absolutely loved to play the game, and to be doing it at that high of a level at that age is very impressive, I'm 37 and I couldn't imagine being able to do the things he did to players 10-15 years younger than him. the GOAT

  11. Wow so let me get this straight Michael Jordan almost made it to the playoffs with 37 wins and the Lakers last year couldn't even play in the play ins! Wow!

  12. Lebrons career is going to be this next year but in a laker suit, Jordan had 23 5n 5 a night on 42pct from the field , at 40 20 pts 5.1 n 6 on 45pct.you can I see a lot of good careers with these numbers now like James harden this year(more assists) but still.

  13. I didnt even realize he played all 82 games and avg 37 mins a game his last year in Washington. Mandela effect, i for some reason thought he was hurt alot that last season

  14. This Jordan to me is my 🐐 and favorite Jordan of all time because of his I.Q. at the time. Yeah he was a grandpa of the league but this is what makes it so unique. And a year or two later Richard Hamilton got a ring while being schooled by M.J. while he had a short stint (3 years) with the Wizards as well.
