Are Giannis, Lillard & Bucks contenders or pretenders? w/ Chris Mannix | Hoops Tonight

Jason Timpf is joined by Chris Mannix to discuss Giannis Antetokounmpo, Damian Lillard, and the Milwaukee Bucks struggles through the first part of the NBA season. After acquiring the superstar guard from the Portland Trail Blazers, it hasn’t gone as smoothly as the Bucks have hoped. Do the new-look Bucks just need more time to gel, or does Milwaukee have a real problem on their hands?

  1. They’re a team with tremendous talent but personnel deficiency @ coaching & POA defense.

If anybody actually thinks the current roster will stay as constructed by feb, you’re a goof.
Changes will be made. By then the offense will come easily.

Meanwhile, giannis is having a shockingly good season averaging 30/10/5 on 61%… + 1 block and a steal.

  2. The Bucks need major perimeter changes for sure. Who will they sacrifice? 🤔 I am willing to part ways with Marjon, Pat, and even Portis if the price is right.

  3. Despite all the blatant issues, they still have one of the best records in the NBA, they beat the Mavs, Heat twice and the Sixers. I think Giannis deserves more credit, not enough people are speaking about him when this is arguably his best ever season in the half court, and maybe in general, even he has been great defensively but the team need to figure out what they want to do to sure up the team defence over the next few weeks.

  4. Bucks no defense! Damian, Beasley, and Kris are all can’t play defense! Kris is not 💯 and he’s not mobile enough to defend anyone! Bucks needs another tough guy like smart in Memphis and others to help defend. Right now, Bucks is average team and will lose in first or second round!

  5. The Lakers? Seriously? That's such a prisoner of the moment call. The Bucks will be just fine. They'll sure up their defensive deficiencies with a midseason trade (possibly PJ Tucker, Marcus Smart or an Alex Caruso) and then they'll be much more balanced. NO ONE will want to see a healthy Giannis, Dame and Middleton in the playoffs, I promise you that.

  6. This is the 1st year I ever saw a team with the 2rd best record in the league (Bucks) gets talk about like they are bad meanwhile a team that is a half game from the play-in (Denver and the Lakers) are being spoke about like they are better. Denver never even made the in Season tournament.

  7. I expect the Bucks to sacrifice 2-3 main rotation guys to bring one defensive guard to play at 2, which means they are going to the playoffs with a really short rotation. It's probably going to be Portis/Beauchamp (perhaps Crowder as well) but probably not Pat. Afterwards the Bucks will have other problems, mainly wing depth and no backup big (unless they start using Robin Lopez), which they will try to solve by bringing in some g-league guys. 🤔

  8. Now I think Minnesota is better than Denver. Milwaukee can get it together if they trade Pat, Marjon and Robin Lopez to Memphis for Marcus Smart. Then sign Dwight Howard.

  9. A trade for Marcus Smart would be a really interesting dynamic.
But I’m most concerned about AG cuz there are now 3 player/coach incidents now with small ‘mutinies’ against AG and how he coaches games

  10. Pretenders. For those of you acting like nothing's wrong by pointing out their record, I will tell you that the record is Fool's Gold, smoke and mirrors. This team may not even win one playoff series. If they do, it'll go to 7 games with every game coming down to the wire. Nothing else matters unless they somehow find a way to beat BOS, who is not worried about the Bucks at all.

  11. Lakers lost to the Mavs(who were on a back to back) and without Kyrie . Bucks were on a back to backand won the Mavs at full strength but Lakers are contenders and the Bucks are not. We know that you love ass kissing Lebron, but you should stop at some point

  12. LISTEN. The Bucks have the best team in the league talent wise by far. It takes time for teams to reach their full potential when making major changes. Even the greatest players don't just come together. It's not like in NBA2k. In real life you see setbacks before the benefits of a Dame and Giannis pick n roll are realized. Also people think Middleton is done and that narrative is false. He's been on a minute restriction and trying to find his identity with Dame arriving.
Lebrons first year in Miami they struggled to be a 500 team till the All Star break. And they ended up losing to Dallas in the finals. It took them a year to become dominant. So I think time is all that's needed.
