EMERGENCY PODCAST: Daryl Morey signs three-year extension with Sixers

Daryl Morey received a three-year contract extension from Sixers owner Joshua Harris, locking him in through 2027-28. His deal now runs up to the exact same point as Nick Nurse.
What does this mean for Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey?
Devon Givens, Kyle Neubeck, and Derek Bodner discuss whether it was the right move and whether Morey learned from the James Harden experience.

  1. No body acknowledges the value of the apprenticeship Maxey had under Harden. Would he be the player he has become without it?

  2. D.Morey traded Ben, Curry, Drummond + 2 First round picks for James/Millsap those 2 first round picks stagnated the team for 2yrs…signed PJ.Tucker, M.Harrell, D.Dedmon, D.House, J.McDaniels (allowed to walk for nothing) waived C.Bassey, I.Joe & traded Thybulle clearly Morey ain't anything special I give him a C+

  3. I don’t know. After reading the live chat, I’m beginning to think some random dude on the internet knows more about the inner workings of the Sixers organization than Derek, Davon and Kyle know.

  4. Stop the BS with Haliburton. He was traded for Sabonis. Nobody knew Ben was going to pull this back issue. Ben was a perennial all star and DPOY candidate and more versatile than Sabonis. Every team still considered him a star still. In fact go back to that time and Indiana wanted Ben for Sabonis. Sabonis just makes no sense for Philly.

Fact is Haliburton was traded that year for what would be seen as a lesser talent. Especially defensively and as a playmaker. Defense was a big concern for why they traded Haliburton and Hield

Furthermore, Morey knew the issue he had with Simmons health mentally and physically. He was going around asking for Haliburton and Fox or draft picks in return. When he should have and could have offered Ben and draft capital for Fox and certainly Haliburton. He didn't, he sent picks for Harden. Just because some media didn't see Haliburton this good (he showed flashes, even against Philly), and it's Morey's job to find those diamonds. Even if you add draft capital to the perceived better players.

I say all this to call bull crap on the idea he wasn't available to Philly. BTW, even Haliburton likely from his agent, who I'm sure knows plenty, thought he was coming to Philly. That's from him directly

  5. If his agent told him be prepared to go to Philly, he was probably on his way to Philly. Agents know what's going on
